maths is so odd, 3 skid patches for my current ratio, but drop one tooth and i get 18
The actual formula is
(no. of rear sprocket teeth) / (highest common factor of (no. of teeth on rear sprocket, no. of teeth on chainring))
So as long as either the number of teeth on the chainring or sprocket is prime, the number of skid patches will be the same as the number of teeth on the rear sprocket.
