You use gmail though... use the contacts in there, it's seamless sync and works with everything.
One of the things that blows my mind about Android is the whole: Turn on brand new phone, whole thing has contacts, email and calendar within a few moments without connecting to a computer.
I'm not sure how attached you are to the iPhone, but whilst I would never suggest someone move from a MacBook Pro (it remains best in class and perfect for the job)... I think Android surpassed iPhone ages ago.
I weep inside when I hear that people still have to struggle with contact sync. It's a solved problem.
