Also, want to buy a point-and-shoot with a good lens.
I think there are some Olympus XA fans around here, and I've been considering that thing as well.
Have been told that the Tessar lenses in the Yashica T's (T1-T5) are super good (sharp).
Can anybody recommend other snappers?
Must fit in jacket, must have a serious lens, must be available for less than 50 on eBay.
You might get a cosmetically poor t4 or t5 for £50 if you're lucky but they usually go for £150-200 on the 'bay.
The Olmpus Mju II is similar to the t4 as it's a true point and shoot with autofocus. http://camerapedia.wikia.com/wiki/Olympus_mju_II
They go for less than £50 on ebay but they have been rising in price because of their similarity to the t4 and t5!
The XA is great and I shoot on mine a lot. The rangefinder is a bit fiddly and some with big hands find it unpractical. It's also quite hard to focus quickly, in my experience anyway - it does offer more control than the Mju II though. They usually go for about £30-100; I've seen ones go for as cheap as £15 and watched what seems like hundreds creep from £10 to £40+ in the final seconds (I eventually got one for £4 at a carboot!).
Another option is the XA2 or 3, they go for less - generally £20ish. There's 3 preset focus ranges and you have no aperture control or info about the shutter speed. Some say that the lenses on the XA2s and 3s are sharper (although not significantly and this is likely counteracted by the hit and miss of getting the focus right) but I would say that shooting is a lot quicker due to less fiddling about.

Hope that helps!
