  • I have just had a discussion with an owner of a current bar about the possibility of opening up a cycling themed bar/cafe in the chorlton area. Was just interstde in peoples thoughts about what it should be. Besides the obvious, Amazing espressos, interesting beers, amazing (carb heavy) food, and constant reruns of Merckx eating people on mountains?

  • Sounds like it could be good if done right.
    I reckon I'd go.
Can you say where it'll be, or is it hush hush at this stage?

  • Obviously an on site mechanic, I think I know a guy.

  • I'll definitely be a regular. North Tea Power allow me to bring in my bike and because of that I'm in there 2/3 times a week. I drink coffee everyday. I also ride a bike everyday. I can't see what can go wrong there.

  • Depending on the physical set up of the space but a safe & secure place to lock up bikes is a must I think. Would be nice to enjoy a catch up with friends out & about without that feeling in the back of your head that some one is having off with your bike.

    And Eurosport : )

  • It's little more than an idea atm. I also love northern tea power, and bold street coffee in liverpool. I'd love a plae that puts together the 3 joys in my life, coffee, cycling and beer (possibly some disco as well). I'll keep you in the know about any developments, fingers crossed.

  • cool, will stay tuned

  • sounds rad! maybe a basic workshop in there!

  • Again, I know a mechanic.

  • If you were after cyclists opinions you may be on the wrong forum.
Many cyclists may want fancy coffees and watching some black and white video of a guy cycling up a hill, but as a 'cyclist' I want cheap beer, a large range of whiskys, free pool and jukebox.

  • ^ I like the sound of both those setups, independent of the fact I ride bikes.

  • Good coffee, weird foreign beers and a good vibe and you've got my student loan for the next 3 years

  • It's not going to be just a cyclist bar is it surely, so a general nice bar, beer, good coffee etc, maybe go a bit euro style like rapha did.. And it just happens that there's parking, bike stuff on walls, and shows the races

If you can get a trip to Ghent keisse's dads bar is cool, cycling stuff on the walls but not too in your face

Has anyone been to keirin Berlin? That looks cool

  • I think there shouldn't be chairs, only rollers and you're not aloud to clip out to go to the bar or piss.

  • Sounds cool if it happens

  • An ace idea - I'd certainly go

  • that looks really cool.

  • Anywhere showing the Giro on Saturday/Sunday in MCR - looking like a classic finish in store...

  • I've never been around Chorlton before, but my housemate could easily be convinced to ride over once in a while on a Sunday, could be a really nice place to pop across to.

  • I've spoken with a guy who's exploring the idea of opening a cafe/bar in Manchester, with Look Mum, No Hands! in London as a blueprint. He kept mentioning Ancoats which i'm not convinced is a good location. (I'm looking for work within furniture/interior/industrial design and making so i'm trying to keep him sweet so if it goes ahead...BINGO!)

I've also heard of a similar bicycle cafe project in Levenshulme that's underway, located close to the crossver of the Fallowfield loop and Stockport Road. Anyone else hearing this?

  • Hm, I agree Ancoats doesn't sound like the best location. Maybe targeting the cycling crowd is different, but I think Vivid -- which opened sometime last year -- had quite a difficult time.

I hope I'm wrong though, because I live here.

Sounds ace. Has he seen: http://www.popupbikes.co.uk/ ? I've not been myself but appears to be trying to hit that type of market.

Imo it's not central enough but who knows...

  • Beer / cycling ?

Id put my money in a cycling cafe with lots of cake

OK it could work though it sounds a little risky wanting to mix alcohol with the cyclist of Manchester

If your going the alcohol way then it needs to engage everyone if its a cycling themed public house maybe it could work ?
