www.ebay.it ?

Yeah maybe. I feel like the Italians probably like using ebay even less than the French... I thought maybe if we just rock up there'll be loads of second hand shops selling old classics for nothing... Just thought someone might know about it. I heard there's loads of cheap Bianchis is all...

funnily enough, a mate of mine a few days ago got an awesome handmade columbus air frame (skaggino or something?) with full DA groupset and DA wheels for €320 from an old shop in the mountains near Turin. I thought the very same as the OP, say there's some nuts bargains to be had there.

Fair enough. Well thanks for the info. I guess I won't bother heading over there on the hunt for classic beauties then! Not the ones with wheels anyway

fleamarkets are quite a good place to troll - there's a monday market in Modena and a Thursday in Parma - for starters - they're both good for picking up dirt cheap mid-range italian bikes
They often have comfortable saddles, inverted handlebars and dynamo's as they've grown old with their owners.
You need to be a bit open minded on manufacturers too - there are plenty of stunning bikes that don't say "pinarello" "De Rosa" or "Colnago" on them, and some pretty crap bikes by Bianchi, Willier etc.The other thing to remember is average height - if you're shopping for something bigger than a 54cm they're less abundant - There's an alley in Palermo dedicated to bike repair - back in 2006 there was a shop with 2 pinarello mondello's a rossin and a 70's colnago ranging from €80-160 each - and 48-52cm - my 2 brothers and I (6'-6'4") were not amused.

totally.
Just about every bike man and his dog have been over there forraging in every nook and cranny. Lets just say, they won't be on every street corner for £20 for a NOS C record job, BUT there will be something somewhere, though honestly you have about as much chance as finding sex bargains over there as you do here. The problem is so many of us forumenger types have the idea of going over there. Like I was visiting family in SW scotland, went to my fav oldschool bikeshop to find he's renovated it and cleared just about everything out. 5-8years ago I do remeeber a large abundance of tidy looking steel jobs, but wasn't interested in road bikes back then. Upon asking him recently he said yeah, I've had some nice stuff, and I've had some London scene kids asking for it, even though I have had it, I've kept it from them as they sounded like C-Units (termed by the legend warner in the 90s).
Anyway, point of the story, you may come dropout touchingly close to some NOS sex, but you have to play it right to get what you want without offending the owner. -

italy isn't a good market for used road bikes. try austria, hungary, switzerland, belgium, countries that have better second hand markets. btw, you won't find valuable infos with google. digging after italian bicycles is a more profound job:D
good luck searching, we are a few dudes in the same line.
Hey!
Just thinking that Italy makes loads of sick bikes and maybe there's loads of cheap old Bianchis and Pinarellos over there? Anyone know anything about getting some sweet second hand frames over there?
