Fuck denying yourself.

Get a titanium frame, it will be expensive, but will endure and give years of good service.

frames are supposed to be ridden in any aspect. better riding the shit out of a nice frame like a 3rensho than it sit around gathering dust.

If you can only afford one, may as well have a nice one. Personally I hate beating the shit out of something nice on shitty commutes. Fair enough smashing it on something big but day in day out grinding away, stacks, locking up of something nice just seems pointless to me.
Winter bike + nice bike = joy to the world

If you put the big miles on the cheap bike, replacing parts is a lot more wallet friendly, and you appreciate the expensive one more when you ride it.
That does, however, make the cost per mile of the nice bike something you'd probably rather not think about.

The answer to your question op is yes.

yeah all good points.. I'm having serious dilemmas atm with what to do with my stable and a potential new custom frame that could potentially cover all my wants/issues/etcetc.. My issue being that frames should be ridden and it's not happening w a few of mine just now!

Cost per mile is too messy to think about!!
-
• #14
Solution: Ride more miles.

If you're on a budget I'd put it all into one bike. Better components -> nicer, more dependable ride.

Give up uni and job.. Prob solved :)

If you've only got room for one bike then make it a good one. Bikes are meant to be ridden, not looked at - especially nice ones. Just don't lock it up!

Budget isn't a problem.. Too many bikes I can't bear to part with is..
-
• #19
build a daily bike with durable components
then have another bike for your favourite cycling discipline

I do daily miles on my cross bike, but am building an old Langster frame up to use as the daily- really looking forward to having something so simple to zip around on.

I have my road bike for long rides. Can't decide on my daily and for-everything-else fixie though.. Been thinking about a custom make that could also run brakes and SS if needed but also have my gangsta which I love (and use daily) and 3rensho which doesn't get used enough and should.. Also some more but not mentioning those atm ;)! Hence need to decide..!

If it's not getting ridden, and you don't see that changing... out it goes.

I should sell my 29er.
It's good and a like it. It just doesn't see enough action.
-
• #24
^ good point. It's just making yourself do that and not regretting it later... Deciding between them is brutal!

^^What 29er have you got?
Hey, what do people think about using an expensive bike/frame as a daily ride? Not really from a monetary aspect, more like if it's doing the frame injustice etc.. I guess some of the bikes in the rat thread started off like that but would you take a frame (eg 3Rensho, merckx, Colnago) and start riding it daily? Just wondering :) ...
