It's such obvious common sense not to post your rides from home that one is tempted to say that anybody who loses a bike as a result of this MO probably deserves it. Aside from pinpointing the location of a shed full of tasty bikes, all this publication of ride data can also show a pattern of activity useful to the less specialised burglar, i.e. every time the weather's nice on Sunday morning, the house occupant will be miles away.
when I was working in a bike shop the popo turned up, they were doing a rounds of all the bike shops in our area about a case. Basically a guy rode almost like clockwork out from ambleside, out and round, was targeted by a 'young couple' who deliberately knocked him off on a pass (so low speed, to avoid damaging bike etc), then offered to take him home/ to hospital.
Only they actually knocked him off hard enough to fracture his pelvis and snap a wrist, nice! then headed back out, took the bike and gone...
Rumour was it had happened a number of times in south lakes. Was years ago now, but still.
