Too clarify eagle, it's been canceled once (due to flooding last week I think) but it goes ahead unless someone says otherwise. There are plenty of non-forumengers who go.
In terms of slack, it refers to a number of things that effect how nimbley you turn, but mostly the angle of the head tube (the tube the forks go in, sorry of I'm being condescending, difficult to know how much you know) and also the rake of the fork (which is how far the fork moves the wheel axle away from the line made by the head tube)...
A slacker bike may be more stable (particularly at speed in a straight line), a tighter bike will be able to out turn a more slack bike.
