  • good stuff :)

  • Freddie's been in the wars and won't be able to ride for 2-3 months as he's broken his leg.

Does anyone else want Dean's (awesome) polo bike as below? Otherwise I'll get it from Joni and store it for him.

    Cheers.

For sale, Dean's polo bike £80
I took photos as requested, forgot to measure it. I think it's a 54cm...
Alf Webb Alu track frame, sturdy as hell though.
Onza cranks. 48h wheels, quando hub on the front, dunno on the back.
Turbo saddle is a little worse for wear, and the flat bars are a bit rusty.
The front brake needs the metal bit (where the cable tie is) pushed back so it holds the cable.
Will probably come with flat pedals instead of these, and maybe a mallet or 2.

  • PM'd Jono, would like to try it.

  • ^^^ is that not boageys new bike :D

  • I have just won and old rod brake style frame on ebay that i cannot wait to get hold of and start playing with. This will be my my first polo bike! :)

  • Without seeing it, I'm not sure how suitable that^ would be. Will it be using rod brakes?

  • I can imagine the angles being rather slack.

  • Angles? Have you seen the bars?

  • look man he said he "I can't wait to start playing on it" why wee wee on his parade?

  • Oh, no it's be great. Quite a nice ride, not the perfect polo bike but then there doesn't seem to be a singular perfect bike. Just whatever suits the person.

  • I'm after the following for my perfect polo bike ; ) aka Turd's old Carlton. Anyone got following knocking around?

    •fairly short stem
    •risers
    •flat pedals
    •polo gearing friendly crank set

    Ta!

  • damn it, I have the old (ugly) stem that I used to use on the carlton, your welcome to it.

  • The man like Dublin Kiev is on it, but ta! I heart this forum!

  • any colour pref Poots? I'm in B-town and stripping my bike at the shop tomorrow. silver risers and crank set deffo, maybe flats too...

  • joni whats happening with the tyres?

    I haz, will bring Weds?

Louis, when do you want yours?

  • •fairly short stem
    •risers

Ahead stem or quill? I have a 40/50mm ahead stem you can take off me if it's what you're after. Can't remember the exact length.
I also have some risers that I used to use for polo. Nothing special, they have been cut down a bit. You can have those for the price of postage if nobody else comes up with anything.

If Poots doesn't end up taking the stem and it's 25.4 then let me know.

  • Hey Skoota, Sandy_I, O'Shane and Coventry Eagle. Thanks for the comments i consider any suggestions and comments as constructive. At the end of the day it is going to be my first bike so I'm not expecting it to be an earth shattering revolutionary step in the world of Bike polo. Just out of interest, what do you mean by Angles being slack? No I'm not going to have a rob brake configuration on the bike, I'm going to be running a rear disc. I had a few reasons for getting this frame; 1. its steel. 2. being an ex-police bike its hopefully solid and rarely well looked after (despite it being from the 50's) 3. I'm running on a tight budget and it was on the better side of cheap. Also i should point out that i play polo on grass which i would image has some variation in style of play and equipment.

  • They play on grass too now?

  • yeah, there are no where near as many grass polo teams as hard court but its seriously good fun.

  • Summit new everyday.

  • He's just having ya.

There are quiet a few (Dont quote me, I think...) grass polo players at WestPolo (Westway, Wednesday evenings) so might wanna drop by there?

Few of us were at Herne Hill Good Friday do this year for a quick grass polo game South thumped North I think ;)

  • Too clarify eagle, it's been canceled once (due to flooding last week I think) but it goes ahead unless someone says otherwise. There are plenty of non-forumengers who go.

In terms of slack, it refers to a number of things that effect how nimbley you turn, but mostly the angle of the head tube (the tube the forks go in, sorry of I'm being condescending, difficult to know how much you know) and also the rake of the fork (which is how far the fork moves the wheel axle away from the line made by the head tube)...

A slacker bike may be more stable (particularly at speed in a straight line), a tighter bike will be able to out turn a more slack bike.
