• I have to clear out a couple of bikes in order to make space/funds for a new road bike. Sadly, this is a beaut...

The frame is 59cm st (ctc) and 57cm tt (ctc). It is perfect for me at 6' but there is leeway either side. It is set up with a 5 speed cassette, but spacing would allow for more gears.

It has Cinelli stem and bars, Brookes Swift saddle, Stronglight cranks and chainrings, super fancy Campag high-flange hubs that look a bit like sheriff-stars, but aren't, Mavic Argent rims, Campag downtube shifters, Shimano cantis (With Onza chill-pill cable hangers), Shimano 600 rear derailleur, Conti Gatorskins (fairly new) and a set of Honjo Koken handmade aluminium mudguards. It has cane creek brake levers, but I have the original Shimano 600 levers (which I found very uncomfortable) and will include them.

To be completely honest, the bike could do with a more caring owner. It has been well maintained in general, but the hubs have got a little bit tarnished and could do with a polish, as could the mudguards. There is a small scrape on the downtube (purely cosmetic) from being on a rack on a car. It could use a new chain and the rear wheel is very slightly out of true. Otherwise it is in amazing condition for a 25 year old bike.

Not entirely sure of value. If you want a new frame like this Mercian will sting you vituperatively. Let's say £725 - is that about right? Now £650

  • That is very nice.....doubt a Trek Madone would look so nice in 2037!......again buy a Titanium bike and that will be looking good in 2037...all things being equal that is!.....I think £725 is fair for what you are offering but will you get it is another thing.

  • There is no way it would - you're right. I want a bike that works damn well, that I can use and abuse. That way I can keep my Master Olympic looking pretty, and not stress about it getting trashed when I ride in the mucky rain...

  • Tiatanium is your answer!

  • Lovely bike, fair price, my size, tempted.

If it's still around after Easter, I might come knocking on your door.

  • I've had a few Ti bikes, and they are great, but none of them were as good as my 'Nago, lighter but just as bendy and not as fun. Nothing else has that crazily rigid BB and chainstays and pin-sharp steering but carbon IMHO. A good ti bike - Merlin, serotta etc. is about as nice looking as a bike can get though I reckon.

Mr. J.J. If it is still around you are welcome to come and check it out. I'll even put the coffee machine on for you...

  • Hmmmmm, that is a beaut. Sitting on my wallet here, let me have a think...

  • I think that I have a new cassette in a box somewhere for this - I'll chuck it in...

  • Hi Benj,
I have been TOLD ha, that I can't spend that much on a bike. To be fair she is correct...
    Bloody beautiful though.
    Money, sigh.

Use some creative accounting!....Never lie....but you don't have to be 100% truthful either.

  • Sage advice...
