  • A couple of things make me think you don't need to be so fixated on width.

    My 75s started out being on a 111mm, which gave good chainline as expected. When I switched frames I swapped them onto another BB the frame came with, which was a different length, without any noticeable difference, before replacing that BB for a narrower still one, maybe 105/107mm, and the chainline still hasn't been compromised.

    I also had to swap my Merckx BB. I needed a 113mm Italian thread, and found a UN55 at Fitzrovia cycles, although it was slightly wider at 115mm. They were sure it would make no difference as they were certain its actual width wouldn't be as advertised anyway. Despite it claiming to be 115mm, they measured it in front of me and it was actually about 112mm.

    I reckon if you can find a wider spindle it'll actually prove to be around the width you'd prefer anyway, plus these tiny differences make little or no difference in practice.
