I'll bow to greater knowledge but yes this should work - spacing with 9 and 10 speed cassettes is the same and the index (cable pull with each click) is carried by the levers not the rear mech so it won't know the difference. The levers and cassette are the same so the cable pull with each click will be the same as the individual cog spacing.
I assume you'll stick with a 9 speed chain?
Alternatively, i think i have a 9 speed 105 rear mech in silver which is near new as i swapped to campy. I'll check and let you know. Happy to sell if you're interested?

Thanks, but the only reason i'm in this position is i bought second hand DA and it didn't work, so now i'm a little wary of buying second hand gearing..
It says on the website 8,9 or 10 speed compatible, so i can assume it will work?
Thanks -

Like brands of cassette and shifter will work with pretty much any rear mech.
www.drivetraincalculator.com is often a good start though there appears to be a bias to recommend J-tek shiftmates a lot more these days than they used to.
When you say it didn't work - what didn't work exactly?

Quick question
I have some 9 speed dura ace STIs and 9 speed cassette.
Would this rear mech work?

Much appreciated
