126mm rear dropout

Posted on
  • I am new to road bikes, having had mountain bikes for most of my life

Just bought a frame, it's not arrived yet but I know its 126mm rear dropout

How many gears can I fit in?

  • eight if you're lucky

  • 5-11 if you respace it.

  • Thanks for the replies

I am guessing that it would have had 7 originally?

Its a nice old frame, don't really want to bend it to fit

  • Steel is flexy, if it is.

  • 2mm each side, you probably wouldn't even realise you're bending it.

  • 6 or 7 speed.

If it's 531 or similar, you can spring the stays to 130mm without worrying. If it's something more fancy/unusual/hi tensile like 653 or 753, bending the stays out not recommended I think.

  • Aha I just read your other thread, it's SLX.

I'd rather have hubs that fit.
