Drivers in Portsmouth aren't very cyclist-aware and all the other cyclists we saw stuck to the pavements. There does seem to be a reasonable cycle path network to avoid the busier roads that I'm going to look into.
Hey, Living in Southsea currently. Not sure I agree with the first bit, I cycle daily around Portsmouth and find 99% of drivers are actually pretty good, leave decent space etc (Not all though obv). Loads of cyclists do cycle on the pavement, we seem to have a very large £99 halfords bike population.
If you need any help with cycle paths let me know. If you come down Portsdown hill by QA hospital, you can pick up an off the road path all they way down to the ferry port and beyond, cutting along the waterside by the Mountbatten centre etc etc.
