The group that is running it now is way more hardline than those of us that started it (well, that isn't entirely true, but as someone who basically lived in the kitchen for the first two years I can say that quite a few of us were vegan, but didn't feel the need to be dicks about it).

    I don't know them well, only met them a few times, but I liked all the volunteers I met. I'm actually planning to volunteer for a bit later in the year, and I guess I'll see for myself.

    I guess the problem is that it was, and will always be, a multi-headed monster who attempts to function as both a restaurant and a political entity. It doesn't work.

    I'm sure it could do if it attracted good professional staff; as a volunteer co-op it's much harder to run it as a restaurant. Pumpkin's was much more predictable, consistent food, if a little basic and stodgy, but washed down with cake and ice cream made for a great meal every time--just remember the quantities ... 'it's vegan, but with a vegetarian option'. :)
