• 8 speed cassettes (and therefore the shifters that match) are spaced at 4.8 mm and 7 speed are 5 mm. So in practice this is too small an amount to make any noticeable difference over the range of the cassette, as it is within the range of movement taken up by the floating jockey wheel on the rear mech. Shifting will be perfect You might just notice a tiny amount of noise on the big cog, but you will have to listen pretty hard to notice. There are no 7 speed STI's anything like as nice as the ones you have.
