  • I agree, I've always been very happy with the service.

  • i prefer wiggle

  • Pita

  • I was unimpressed when Chain Reaction gave my credit card details to someone else, and chose to try to keep it a secret.

  • ^this.

  • What happened?

  • As far as I know, they never admitted to what happened- for most of it they denied that they had been compromised at all.

I'd advise using PayPal to shield your details from them, as I've no confidence that it will not happen again, based on how they dealt with the situation.

  • Yeah I heard something about that.
I have been pleased with them so far though.
Stores should never hold credit card information

  • I was unimpressed when Chain Reaction gave my credit card details to someone else, and chose to try to keep it a secret.

Yes that was annoying - esp when my bank then cancelled my card because of it so I got rejected at the till in Lidl (of all places)!

Other than that, terrible customer service, lying about components on bikes & photoshopping the pictures has also made them not my favourite shop.

  • I'd forgotten about this - unaffected so less bothered I suppose.

But let's be fair here. I am 99.9% sure that they did not give your credit card details away. Did you lose any money as a result?

I have no doubt that they did not choose to give the credit card details away, but their system was not secure enough (allegedly and all that) so card numbers could be hacked. I understand that yes, some people did lose money let alone have the inconvenience of their cards being cancelled.

I've been quite happy with CRC, and use Paypal so was not affected by what I would see as a pretty major flaw in their system.

Still don't see the point of a specific thread for this though.

  • I visit their store every time I go back to Belfast and it's always a pleasure, glad to see the actual store is just as good as the online one.

  • Did you lose any money as a result?

I had to change one of my bank cards after I got a phone call from the fraud department of my bank, would have been nicer for a heads up or apology from CRC. I avoid them since then.

  • hear hear.
once got the wrong colour bar tape from them, but apart from that never missed a beat. They build a decent wheel too.

  • CRC have excellent customer service. I bought an OTP bike and there were some minor blemishes on the paintwork. I told them and they refunded £40. I later noticed a minor bend in the crankarm/misalighment. I told them and again, they refunded £40 (the value of a replacement chainset).

I have had problems with wiggle items before but its been way too complicated to negotiate a complaint. Good otherwise. CRC give more freebies though. Evertime I have ordered recently (small cheap stuff) they always stick in about £2-3 worth of energy gels.

  • customer service is good when you need it - but their actual time to pick items has become stupidly slow.

Back in the day you could order something on a wednesday afternoon and it would be in the post before the end of the day (and often at your door the next morning). Now I order stuff and it can take 3 days to leave the warehouse (even when you've paid for 24 hr delivery). Which means I buy 50% less stuff from them than I used to...
Oh and DFP - I've been ordering from CRC almost every month for 10 yrs and still yet to receive a single freebie anything!

  • I usually get things from both planet X and CRC extremely quickly, delivered next day usually. But my last order from CRC took 11days. I think something went funny in the post during easter though as I had other post delayed/lost too.

If you order a bike you get a little toolkit in a duffle bag with a decent quality multi-tool. And a good quality water bottle.

  • They had some NW gortex MTB boots in my size on offer.

Really need these where I am. Ordered them + some small bits to break the inertrnational free delivery limit.

    Waited....

    ....waited

...and waited. Al the time with frozen toes.

Then I get an E-mail saying that the shoes are out of stock (they came up as in stock a feckin month ago cretins).

But they'll send the £21 of assorted shite I bulked the order with.

Noooooo, that'll cost me £18 in customs fees.

2 1/2 months later. Everything is returned and I have been refunded. Plus my toes are no longer cold....

...Cuz they fecked around for so long, winter ended!

    CRC. Bleh!

Same here. Would not use again.

  • Wow, this thread backfired!

However, I will '+1' the OP. In my experience they have been enormously helpful.

  • Another happy punter. I bought a rim from them that failed shortly after the wheel was built, they sent another straight away (didn't have to return it or anything, emailed photos were sufficient), and paid for the wheel to be rebuilt, no quibbling at all.
