It wasn't a bike, but its the same approx dimensions I'd expect a bike box to be, and a similar weight, just trying to give you a ball park figure to work with / expect.

After some quick work with the tape measure I reckon this would need a box of around 120X80X20cm, and as Tom says above I reckon 8kg is going to be a fair target weight.

I would prefer not to post it to OZ btw, but will if no one in the UK wants it.

Has the frame been weighed to calculate the shipping costs?

I found a gap in the rain.
Rear facing dropouts:
Band on front mech- 2.3 Nm maximum torque for the band:
Apart from the left hand fork leg I cannot find a mark on it.

Has the frame been weighed to calculate the shipping costs?
The frame is very light- it'd account for maybe 20-25% of the total weight, probably be less than the cardboard box that it goes into.

Very nice, wish I had the funds and the extra few inches in height lol

I've just been doing some more searching for cost effective ways of sending the frame to Oz, and it looks like they ignore the actual weight and use a projected weight, based on the volume of the box.
Anyone know of a company that use the actual weight, not "projected", as the projected weights are in the 40kg range, so if they charged based on the actual weight one would hope it would be a lot cheaper?

Appreciate the effort you're all going to.
I've found the best way to ship frames overseas for a reasonable price is to:
- chock the rear dropouts
- take the fork out and bubblewrap it
- lay the fork longside the frame.
- bubblewrap the lot.
- cut the sides of a cardboard bike box up so they are roughly the same shape as the package and sandwich the package between the two.
- mummify the lot in some packing/gaffer tape.
The odd/non-cuboid shape means it's as small as possible, harder to estimate the volumetric size (so the estimate from the shipping company tends to be lower based on a volume measure) and - the odd shape makes it hard for freight handlers to pack - so they leave it to last and put it up top with all the lighter, softer bags and parcels rather than underneath everything else at the bottom.
But I'm probably preaching to the converted, right? :)
- chock the rear dropouts

I spoke to the chap in the post office who said that they measure along the H/L/W axes, and construct a notional box if the object is not rectangular.
At the moment it looks like for frame, fork and p&p to Melbourne we'd be looking at £400.

Had you considered moving to East London?

Dammit perhaps you should consider a holiday to melbourne

My employer is headquartered there, however I might run into some issues with my hand luggage if I engineered a reason to visit.

Hmmmmmm. For reference, I had the Gitane Aero frame shipped to me for 105GBP in a box bigger than a one bedroom apartment.
Anyway, hope it ends up under someone's bum soon - otherwise I might have to make the trip over to collect LOL.
Can you wait until 2013 Tour de France ? I'll be there then.

About six weeks ago now, it feels at one and the same time both a longer and a shorter period than that.

That's what THEY want you to think.
I'm going to make the wild and unfounded assumption that you've been standing around in the open- right underneath some Chemitrails, you poor clueless zombie.
The last frame I sent (light alu frame, but not to aus), was in a huge box with a load of bubblewrap and a spare fork, it weighed 8kg.
