  • Cool, you using Alu though?

I noticed a machinist in Peckham, might see if they've got off cuts.
Where did you find yours DT?

  • He got it off ebay ( I asked him before)
I found some where on ebay and ordered a circle cut in 4mm 150mm across (then cut the bits for the calliper and fixing out)

  • Cutting the curve seemed like it would be the hardest job, you would have to cut more out. Cutting more out takes a little time but should be pretty straight forward.

  • Interesting.

Rob if you tell me what you want I'll try to make something. We could measure stuff on Thursday. I never used disk brakes so I have no idea what goes where.

I'm not around this weekend, but I should be able to use the FabLab's printer/laser cutter the following Friday.

  • I'll bring a orchidometer and we'll measure away.

  • ^ Wouldn't be surprised if you did actually turn up with one.

  • Ok.
I've got v1.0 of the rear bashguard ready. 3mm STAINLESS steel. We've made them lighter and hopefully more universal.

I have 4 available at £10 each on the condition you give me lots of feedback and photos with suggestions of tweaks we might want to include.
    PM's Please.

After I've had some feedback I'm going to make up the first big batch done. I'm still working on a front guard, which will follow soon.

  • For 160 rotor?

How much does it weigh matey?

  • Nice! I'd take one but want to have a go myself.

  • For 160 rotor, 200g.

  • I have seen in the flesh, and can confirm real-life awesomeness at a difficult to miss price. x

  • Could people post some pics of their forks with please. esp the disc tabs.

Also just wanted to say they're stainless steel. We're also looking to do the a bar across the caliper.

The metal workers said the guards can be made in 5mm alu but don't rate it. They'd rather do it from titanium. Is this something people would be interested in?

  • if you just want to know where the disc tabs are in relation to axel and fork leg then this is useful.

  • Thanks dt.

Can we get a list going of people interested in front bash guards (steel, alu or ti). I don't really want to put a load of effort in if people aren't interested.

I'm unsure which material I want but i'm interested in testing something, Ti sounds great of course but at what cost? I'll start the list for front bash guard.

  • Front bash guard list:

    1 - Rich (Bristol)

  • Ha. That's not such a crazy idea.
    This wouldn't cover the caliper.

  • Front bash guard list:

    1 - Rich (Bristol)
2 - Alex (Dublin) cheapest material preferred

1 - Rich (Bristol) unsure of material preferred

  • I was looking down at the local bike shop and found a really wide brake booster that looks sort of like this:

It seems like the perfect rotor guard! I just bolted one of the holes onto the caliper with a longer bolt, and then the shape pretty perfectly covers the rotor, and then bolt the other hole to a jubilee clip on the chain stays. Thinking about getting a mount welded onto the frame and it would be absolutly perfect I think

  • ^ Venn uses one too.

  • nice work woody, I wouldn't look down on them too much though im sure there trying their best

  • something like this work?

  • I looked at using a booster, it wasn't quite big enough.
I had been using a 160 rotor cut up and even the slightest bit of rotor showing meant it would get bent.
I've just chopped up a 240 rotor which is looking like it will work well.
