  • Never heard of Bitcoin till I looked it up on Wiki, what's involved with the mining?

  • To my (limited) knowledge, lots and lots and lots of constant computing requiring high end clobber + a flux capacitor to travel back in time to when there was value in it.

  • I used to roll my own, but I got sick of there always being one component that turned out to be a stupid choice for some reason or another. Usually the motherboard. Like David I realised I would rather just spend the extra money to make it someone elses problem.

So when I wanted a new music production PC I went to Inta-Audio and had them build me one

Mine's older (and therefore lower spec) than this but it's in that same nice Silverstone case with the silly fan controller on it. The benefit of this is that they have far more experience in what are the most rock-solid reliable, powerful and quiet-running components to use. And it has been utterly dependable.

When I wanted a new gaming rig I just bought a nice gaming laptop from Novatech, because it was a good price and the reviews were positive.

  • PHWOAR!

  • Blimey so tidy and loads of room in there what case is that l???

  • You've definitely missed some wires. It's supposed to look more like this...

    A Corsair 550D

I used to have an Antec P180, I not the best cable management but I know you can do better than that

also XH, the answer is fucking quick son

  • Just for laughs...

  • Really, spotter, that 'thing' is in your room? What exactly does it do better than stock gear?

  • I bet it can suck a golf ball through a hosepipe

    dem grafix

  • Amazing cable management. Well done sir!

  • I have a plan

(30gb ssd for OS and games)
    (8gb x2)

    (hd7770)

    (i5 2320 quad 3ghz)

  • Good plan. Apart from the 7770. In my opinion. You could save almost £30 by getting a 6770 and their performance is basically the same. 6 series cards are diiiiiiiiirt cheap at the moment too.

Obviously it isn't my PC, but you can also get a 6850 for the same amount as a 7770 and its performance is much better.

  • Might do that then. I'm a bit out of touch with the computer world at the moment.

  • what OS are you running, windows 7 took up 64gb with just the install on mine, so 30 is going to be hard work.

also I'd just like to say, jess called it.

  • also you might be able to save some more money by getting 4x4gb instead of getting 2x8gb

  • jess called what? I will probably use the same stripped down win 7 I am using at the moment. Can't remember exactly how much it takes up but I don't think it's much over 10gb.

  • also you might be able to save some more money by getting 4x4gb instead of getting 2x8gb

not enough slots on the mobo

  • There isn't much benefit to the lower end 7 series in comparison to the lower end 6 series. I believe the 7770 has a 128 bit bus width and 640 stream processors. A 6850 has 256 and 960, respectively.

Out of interest why are you choosing to get a micro ATX board?

  • jess called what?

as soon as you saw my pc she said "oh no i bet you'll want a new computer now"

  • aw shit, told you I'm out of touch.

  • I will probably use the same stripped down win 7 I am using at the moment. Can't remember exactly how much it takes up but I don't think it's much over 10gb.

I should have probably done this, did you use nlite?

  • ^ ^ But that's good cos it means you can buy the magazines and research all the specs and make notes on various configurations, and check your bank statements as you re-budget several times, before you order all the components from 7 different suppliers, only to wait 2 more weeks for the final crucial part, during which time you find yourself taking each part variously to bed with you where you lie and stare at it for hours till you sleep peacefully dreaming of playing computer games and watching films simultaneously.
