Picture is now attached...
Unfortunately this is my first post, not a good way to :(
My Lemond Fillmore (61cm frame) was stolen from the shed out of my flat (EC2A 3EE) yesterday night.
It looks like in the picture, but with drop bars and crud mudguards. Both tyres are Maxxis Re-Fuse 23c black.
It's got a WTB Rocket V Titanium Saddle, 48t chain ring, tektro front brake lever and a QR support for a carradice bag... don't know what else to say.By the way, it was marked by the MET police, is there any reason I shouldn't post here the marking number and the serial number?
Thanks,
xabel

Sorry to hear about your loss, xabel.
By the way, it was marked by the MET police, is there any reason I shouldn't post here the marking number and the serial number?
It's unlikely that even if you did people would walk around with it to hand. Give the numbers to all your friends and people you know. You wouldn't achieve critical mass for a dragnet on here, anyway, and in this size your bike is distinctive enough to be memorable. Invite people to PM you if they think they see it. Make sure that you involve the police. Some more advice here:

Good luck.

I don't think this news has been posted yet:
http://content.met.police.uk/News/Man-jailed-for-selling-stolen-bikes/1400007804598/1257246745756
Amewode admitted to making over £11000 from the sale of 33 stolen bikes, five of which he admitted to stealing himself. All adverts he placed were posted online within a couple of days of the bicycles being reported stolen.
Well done, Payback Unit and Cycle Task Force.

By the way always use two good quality D locks and secure the seat as well. Two good quality D locks will put off most potential thieves. Never rely on just one D lock.

^really???

Yes, by the way I recommend Oxford Magnum D locks as they are pretty tough locks without too much weight. Also they are pretty corrosion resistant too so won't seize up and leave you unable to open them with your key. I have had numerous D locks over the years and the Oxford Magnum is my favourite so far.

Any more details on that, Ho?
Well i was looking at ebay and usually it the same old stuff with track frame, but something didn't seem right with this one and then checked on the forum to found it was stolen, apparently he wanted to flog it off at a local market for £150 and the people told him to F*** off so he decided to put it on ebay, probablem was that we knew it was stolen and we didn't have a clue or contact details about the owner, but when i when to HH, there was a small poster saying the following bikes were stolen and the Koga was one of them! left him an message about his bike's location and next week found he got it back! RESULT!!!

No, if you forget your lock then you are a lot more likely to have your bike stolen.

Quality, good work. Did you get it back via the police or on your own through tracking down the Ebay seller?

^ more help from Pistoffski and HH, no help from police, if you have to do something right, do it yourself i guess.

Fahgeddaboudit.
Those locks weigh a ton though and cost a bomb too. The Oxford Magnum I have found is reasonably priced and reasonably lightweight too. -

@Goldsword, maybe you don't understand the internets.
You need to go and chat to GA2G on the "Locks that work" thread.

Was the seller not a bit funny about you tracking him down and demanding the bike back off him?
-
• #8220
We never contacted the seller =) as i think the owner sorted it by himself (maybe via the police) we just have the the location of his bike and he told us the good news he got it back

They aren't that expensive at all when the price of your bike is a factor. I would rather htfu and also spend a bit extra on a lock and actually be comfortable knowing that it is still there when I leave the office to be honest. But that is an argument for the locks that work thread.
Fahgeddaboudits weigh HTFU kg.

Chris spotted the ad on gumtree yesterday and told me. I instantly updated the police report. They said they'll call back but they didn't. After the ad was pulled I decided not to wait and arranged to meet the guy with the intention of going there with the police. That was according to advice from Andy and that thread he linked to.
I called up today around 1pm and told them what happened. They said they'll call me and... they did, at about 4.30pm. But this time it was a pretty cool officer who asked me to email him a description, photos, and the saved ad page. They handled it from there. Basically two of them went in plaincloths, using my description as a crash course in bike components they bluffed their way to haggle the price down to £150 (!). According to one of them he ended it by saying "how about I give you this much..." opening his wallet and showing his ID. Fuck yeah CSI! They called me straight afterwards and I just went to the station, filled a 5xA4 page statement, and walked out with the Surly.
So thanks to Andy's advice, the two coppers' help, and especially thanks to Chris's detective skillz, we got the bike back.
Chris, have a bagful of drink tokens!
From the manc thread, Yay!

Precisely. I carry a Fahg NY Mini and a fucking heavy Abus chain. My backpack is heavier than my bike, but I just see it as more calories burned while cycling. Bonus.
-
• #8224
You cant put a price on carrying a heavy lock if it protects your bike from the thieves.
