When are you doing the ride?
Alone, or in a group ?
Smashing idea for charity.
But prepare for us lot to slaughter you. (for your own good, we are trying to help honest)
I am totally sure people have done it on a mountain bike.

I am 5ft 10ins
I am going with 1 other person and in the last week of May. We are thinking of camping but the other person is planning those bits. I am tasked with getting my own bike and the sponsorship.
I really don't want to try it on a mountain bike and having tasted road bikes I need to source a proper bike!

Road Bike
the money I use for the bike will have to be deducted from what I manage to donate to the charity.
Thanks
Mike

I would need a spec crabon bike for Lejog.
Actually camping you might need a mountain bike. Lots of people do the Youth Hostel thing, less to carry.
How many days ? weeks ? are you planning for ?

We are aiming at 10 days. I wanted to do the Youth Hostel and am still working on my co-rider to go down that route.

cycling 70 odd miles every day for nearly two weeks will break your arse unless you've been riding regularly.
if your cycling is mostly on a mountain bike consider keeping this style with an upright flat barred commuter style bike fitted with comfy 32-38mm tyres, and transfer your present saddle onto it
travel and trips section has lots of useful info

Road Bike
I am about to complete a Lands End to John O'Groats ride for Diabetes UK and only have a mountain bike to do it on. As you forumites will know that is not good as the gearing, seating, suspension etc is going to make this a very long ride.
I am either looking to loan or buy a road bike but I am limited on how much I can spend as the money I use for the bike will have to be deducted from what I manage to donate to the charity.
I am happy to collect from anywhere in the country and if it is a loan then I would ideally need it from as soon as possible until the middle of June.
Any advice about the route, where to stay, what to take etc would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Mike
