Looks nice and has a good build,i would agree that it is raleigh/carlton,the caps on the seat stay tops are pointing to that anyway.Looks like mid '70,s age wise and in good shape. It will be worth more if you checkout the frame no. and can establish make/model/tubing beyond doubt. As it is though it should be £300-£350 i would have thought. Some decals would help get the right price though.

his is 531. -

why not 60 miles a day on this? changing it for a tourer?
-
• #14
(lovely by the way...300-350 is about right)
-
• #15
aye, if you think it's a little too small, why not raise the stem?
-
• #16
Second the doing 60 miles on this, looks like itd be great fun, and steel is the way to go on longer rides, more cushioned ride, easier going.
Ive got a 1995 Dawes Galaxy that did 66 miles and the only thing that needed changing was my legs for a fitter pair, many times I think its the rider not the bike, imo enjoy this bike, looks great -

i've been known to do 60 miles in a day on my brompton - now that's travelling in comfort :)
-
• #18
60 miles a day pon a MASH...
-
• #19
yeah 300/400 sounds right for a tidy british frame and decent group :)
-
• #20
Is this for sale? if so I'm interested.
-
• #21
really nice work, would say about the same 300 to 400.

Those lugs suggest Raleigh from the early 80s rather than an earlier Carlton. Whats the serial number on the BB?
-
• #23
Sorry for the slow reply! I just got back from Milan... Thanks for all the nice words. Its a beautiful bike and I do love it but it just feels a little small ! I am 6ft4" I have tried raising stem etc now I have my heart set on something a little newer, something like this : http://static.lfgss.com/attachments/45429d1319898636-white-witcomb-1.jpg

the serial doesn't make sense to me ! spent ages trying to identify it and then gave up! it seems to have been scratched out and re stamped,,, this was all under what I believed to be the original white paintwork that was in awful condition when I got it! here is a photos of underneath the bb after I stripped the frame: http://static.lfgss.com/attachments/34803d1294618400-img_1649.jpg

seat tube measures 56 or maybe 56.5 from center of bottom bracket to top of seat tube
Hello all,
Ok I have finally accept after a year and a half, that my first complete bike build is a little small for me! Iong story but I am planning a big bike trip and need something I can do 60miles a day on...
I had the frame re-sprayed, bought it branded as a carlton but couldn't confirm the model, spoke to a guy who used to build Holdsworths and he thought it could be a Carlton Pro. It is a lovely frame with nice lugs ;D
It has a fairly complete campagnolo nuovo record groupset, I think the photos show everything! they were taken just after I built it so it has a few marks now but it is kept inside and never cycled in the rain :D Oh the headset is Gipiemme Crono Sprint.
I would like to know how much you guys and girls think my bike might be worth...? (minus the pedals and saddle ! I would keep these for the new baby) I would love to hang onto it but I think it needs to go to fund a new one...
