This ride pissed me off from the start. GMCC have been trying to get roads closed for events for year, always to get the cold shoulder. Sky turned up with money and they bent over backwards. Now a commercial events company manage to close the roads and priced riders out of the event, they then get sponsorship and tell local riders of road legal bikes* they are not welcome.
Rather than shouting at riders at an event we should be shouting at local council members. Elections are only 3 weeks away so they might well be knocking on your door in the next week or so. Ask them about cycling, ask them about the money they make from events like this.
*I can see why they might ban brakeless for insurance reasons but if it's road legal and in good working order then what's the problem?
