Rickshaw for weddings?

Posted on
  • I dropped the big question recently - to which my lovely girlfriend accepted. We're looking to get hitched in September - and the only thing that i really want (apart from quality ale and eclectic beats) is to ride to and from venue in a cycle rickshaw.
Does anyone have any experience of hiring one - or have any links into hiring one?
    A huge thanks in advance.

  • Hi -Congratulations. Yeah, I have worked/ am working as a rickshaw driver. I am sure one of the bigger companies would rent you one. To rent in London it's about £35-40 per night - but thats for carting tourists about in the West End - so they may price it differently - also they are kept in carparks throughout London - so it may be an effort getting it to the venue, depending where the wedding is... pm if you want some numbers.

  • Thanks Tom-Saracen - I didn't expect info quite so soon. You legend.
    Will get in touch....

  • Aren't you in Birmingham, pistaboy?

Here in London, you could get in touch with Rick Sure's Rickshaws:Call/text Jon on 07837 486 112 (info taken from the Tower Hamlets Wheelers page here: http://www.towerhamletswheelers.org.uk/localinfo.html). They do loads of events.

LCC in Hackney have a rickshaw, too.

  • Cheers Mr Schick, I Am indeed in the midlands so i'd probably need to call a favour in with an extended transit- which a mate has. I'll get in touch with Jon though, to get some info. Cheers.

  • Druid cycles on Druid street has a proper Inidan looking one parked outside their premises. It looks really nice. Think it' just parked outside as a kind of marketing tool. Give them a bell and they may hire it out.

    8 Druid Street, London SE1 2EY gmap

  • Yeah - the ones that are used to cart tourists around are a little 'practical' looking ... Druid Cycles one sounds a bit more suitable for a wedding :)

  • A rickshaw has 2 wheels and is pulled by a person the 3 wheeler that is pedaled is a trishaw

  • Also try bugbugs, Chariot Bikes and London Pedicabs.

After I was aquitted of the cab-related charges that lead to the making of pedicabs legal i took my lawyer to her wedding in my pedicab. T'was fun.

  • I own an authentic Indian Rickshaw that is parked in Wandsworth. It was bought to be used to raise funds for a charity tuktuk race across India. You could definately use it if a donation is made to the cause. This thing is a serious headturner but may not be what ur after. Let me know if your interested and il post a picture.

Type indian rickshaw into google And you get the idea (it has more tassles and 'accessories' than any you see here)

    Congratulations also :)

  • when the fuck did you buy that Pat?

  • Hi Pat,

I am indeed in the same boat and looking for a Indian styled rickshaw for my wedding. just wondered if it was available mid May and indeed would be very happy to make a donation. Charity run in a tuktuk sounds brilliant, I have seen a few guys just on bikes doing something similar out in India, brave folk, I thought cycling into Paris was crazy enough but that was tame!

Be great to hear from you.

  • Alright Pat - a picture would be awesome, and a donation would be my pleasure. I can pm you my email address if thats better?
    Cheers mate

  • Congratulations!

Pats offer seems like a go-er.

Where is the event happening, how will you get the rikshaw there?

Those fuckers are really weird to ride, when you get on one you realise the significance of leaning to turn.

If you are after a tradition Riksha walla outfit to wear while riding the thing, I can hook you up.

If you choose to wear a wedding tuxedo its gonna be a rather surreal affair.

  • Hi Pat,

Just wondered if you had any more thoughts regarding your rickshaw, as mentioned I am too getting married and like the idea of using the above as a form of transport. Let me know if it is a go-er and again would be more than happy to make a donation to your chosen charity.

Look forward to hearing from you.

    Prad

  • Don't lean

  • I once rode a trishaw on two wheels the entire length on charing cross road.

  • Hello, I was just wondering if the indian rickshaw is available for hire PatChurch? I would be more than willing to make a donation to a good cause :)

  • Hi I was just browsing the internet looking for an indian looking autorickshaw to hire for a wedding event and came across your post PatChurch. Is yours available for hire? it would be for a couple of hours only. And if so would you be able to send a picture?
    Many thanks!
