@eyebrows - Come out with us next time (snow not guaranteed).
12th May Fixed Gear Special.
Chesterfield, Bakewell, Monsal Trail, High Peak Trail, Matlock, Chesterfield.
There will be some ascending and descending involved so personally reccomend 65" and a front brake if fixed.
This looks brilliant - I love the Monsal Head climb (if you're doing that, which I reckon might be about do-able on 65"). I'm doing the Etape Caledonia that weekend - sorry to miss out.
One thing I learnt was that there is an excellent, not-too-hilly way out of the Peaks going south.
If you head from Whaley to Buxton, then Hindlow
B5053 Buxton Rd
thru Longnor
left off the B5053 past Marsh Head
onto B5054
R at Hulme End
R again towards The Dale
then, just follow the Manifold Valley all the way to the A523
L onto the A523
R onto Common Lane
Dale Lane to the A52
R onto A52
L onto a lovely little road through the fields, and it's downhill all the way to London (sorta)
The Manifold valley was frosty and f'in' freezing at 7am before the sun reached the bottom of it.
I think I know where you mean - it is beautiful round there - I rode through the Manifold Valley and over to the Roaches at Christmas.
