Whoa! Cheers for the awesome replies guys! fatoldbloke that looks incredibly foolish which gives me hope :) Just going to be a beater (which is why I preferred this option to just buying a proper fork) so hopefully wont need to be super solid (just enough to get me to shops and back :)
Bothwell your link looks perfect! Though I will probably just try a DIY version with a quill converter and some spacers.
As I pointed out in the first post the tightening will be the tricky bit though I was thinking that if the quill converter and the star nut have the same threading I could possibly just connect the two?? Seem to recall most quill converters having a larger bolt though so will have to have a look....
