So I have just bought a 1-1/8 fork that is exactly the wrong size for my frame and comes just to the top of the headset....I was wondering if I could just punch the star nut down the tube further and then put a quill-ahead converter in to attach a normal ahead stem....I am aware that the issue will be getting it tight enough in a up/down orientation (the normal job of the top cap and screw), but wonder if anyone else (who is still alive, preferably) has ever been silly enough to do this??
