  • Loose chain ring bolt?

Nope, they're all toight like a toiger.

Spin the chain ring round two mounting bolts, and see if the deadspot is in the same point, or if it moves...

I'll give this a shot when I get some time to sit and play with it, cheers.

  • Got a flat today. Pretty much buggered the inner tube so I just replaced it,

    Recycling in action! :)

  • The rattle occurs at the same point of rotation of the cranks, so I guess the problem lies with them or the chainring.

You'll minimise this if you tension your bolts properly. It's a bit hard to explain (but not hard to do).

Read the bit halfway down this page about Centering Chainwheels. It works.

  • Forgot to post it in here, so here goes.

Switched out the crankset. The Messengers give a nice chainline and are beefier and rounder than my old Lascos. There's still a little noise but it's much better. Chain tension is much more even all around. Next thing I'll look at is the rear cog, I guess.

Also test-rode an Arrospok and ended up buying it. I was actually genuinely impressed with the buttery smooth ride, indestructible feel and hey, it's really not THAT heavy (about the same as the Deep V types I was looking at building...). Carries a LOT of forward momentum once you get up to speed.

If it's a phase and I sell it in a month then whatever, no regrets. Overall the thing has me grinning like an idiot (possibly partly due to the absurdity of it as well) and I like that!

    Problem, good taste?

  • Just get a black rear tyre and that will look ace and be straight into the hhsb thread.

  • Planning on building a Deep V (or similar) in red for the rear, on the existing red hub, with black spokes and black tyre. Most likely, anyway.

  • Still got the bars?

    Whats the width?

Want rid of them if they are 38cm wide?

  • Yeah, sorry! Not had a chance to get to my office to get them (don't ask!). Will do tomorrow hopefully and will measure them then.

  • Except I just noticed you are in Japan. My bad.

  • leader heritage < oxymoron?

  • I don't care if Spok's are hipster. This makes me want a Spok on my 725 so much after seeing this :-(

  • what jakebrown said.

  • Well.... when I say Spok, I would much rather have a HED3 Tri Spoke.

The shop had one of them too. Just shy of £900! barf

Also it had a quick-release skewer, which was perplexing.

  • Craigslist tokyo is best for selling stuff.

If you fancy yourself as a bit of an Ian Brown for example....

If you're gonna spend that much you might as well save for Mavic iO! That is an insane amount of money. Spok it is!

even better, that mean you can get those security skewer for it.

very little point in going for track front hubs apart from matching set TBH.

  • even better, that mean you can get those security skewer for it.

But that requires buying something for non-aesthetic reasons! I'm sure most people (well, most people willing to pay that much for a HED3...) will just leave the QR on and not chain the wheel up. Then again, in Kyoto I bet you'd get away with it.

  • My LBS finally got more Gatorskins in so I threw one on the front and swapped the Mavic onto the rear... which means TWO BLACK TYRES! I'll get a photo in a day or two.

There's not much red left (only the rear hub and spokes) and it all looks very stealthy. To be honest I might just leave it as it is (hah) and not build a new rear wheel unless I royally fuck this one somehow.

I'm now running a 23c on the front and a 25c on the back. That's not going to have any ill effects, is it? It felt pretty swift coming back from the shop!

  • Nope I run 23 and 25 too and it is fine. Glad you got rid of the red!

you're doing it like the pro.
