I've got a 26.0mm crosstop to work on mtb bars, by using v-strong grips and clamping over the top of the grip... it's tricky, but it can be done.
If your gf's bars are normal mtb-style ones, but have road calipers these Tektro FL750's might be a better bet: .. light, cheap, recommended by Rivendale...
