• Oh, just checked and they is tubs, not clinchers... I really need some sleep.

  • I've got the PX ones with an aluminium braking surface because cheap carbon ones are known for failing after heat built up from braking.
If you're using them on a track/tarck bike they might be fine as you won't be braking on them.

Nah, this is my first proper fixie, so will want braking surface.

Planet-x don't seem to have any 50mm carbon clincher rims or carbon clincher track wheels for sale on their site at mo either. And I'm not a big fan of tubs.

  • they only do them as a pair
    http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/WPPX52CCL/planet_x_52mm_carbon_clincher_wheelset
If you really want you could buy them and sell the rear one.

This talk of carbon wheels has inspired me to put my front one on my track bike. I've decided I need another one now.

  • P-X tested full carbon clinchers, and then decided against them after "Alpine braking" testing.

To be honest, if this is going to be a running around London bike you'd be fine- 10km long steep descents being rare around here.

Send (say) Xiamen Farsports an email asking the price of novatech track hubs to 50mm clinchers.

  • Cheers Dammit, good info.

then post here - I haz interest

  • Does anyone have experience or advice on buying a disc wheel via this route? Interested in buying for a pure track build.

  • What do people think of this? i actually quite like it, looks fairly well made, £390 so its a bit more expensive than the usual chinese price for a frame and fork

  • Matte lacquer looks even nicer

  • Not my cup of tea... look a little fugly.

  • How does it look well made?

  • they trimmed off the excess and you can't see the pollyfilla poking out of the holes

  • Too much style over substance for a TT machine imo. Weird 'not so aero' details.

  • Weird 'not so aero' details.

    seat post clamp for one

/waits for tester to correct him

  • Weird 'not so aero' details.

this is a polite way of saying. it;s fucking shit

    imo

  • Would agree, hardly smooth flowing angles like you seen on a shiv
(Of which is about 1,000 times better than anything any of the competitors have come up with)

  • looks like an awsum bat-bike.

would build up great, just have to make sure your cape does not get caught.

Seat post in the top bat-bike is for people 8ft and above.
(Round it up to 3m for metric peoples.)

  • Am gonna order one the e_baybikes frames in the next few days, either the knock-off pinarello or this one:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Full-Carbon-700C-Monocoque-Road-Frame-Fork-54cm-/350549255901?pt=UK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR&hash=item519e5d26dd#ht_1945wt_956

any idea if the latter is a copy of a different companies road frame? has everything to be said about these frames been said, or is it worth me posting a blow-by-blow of the ordering/delivery process and how I get on with the frame etc?

  • Looks similar to the one sumo has. If I remember right from when I was looking for mine, the ones in that price range aren't direct rip offs of any big manufacturer's frames, but some companies have bought them direct from china and sold them on.

they are copies of moulds usually designed for companies which then didn't go ahead with them for whatever reason. I believe that one is the FM001, the first one. It's a good frame, just don't expect the finishing to be great on it. There's not much to say about the ordering process, you buy it, they will usually email you to confirm the size/finish, then it will around 14 working days later.

  • I think the FM001 is actually a copy of a Kuota.

I saw one of the FM001's outside Sainsbury's in Brighton, and was relatively impressed it. Recognised it as Chinese carbon, and seeing one that had obviously been ridden somewhere and was still in one piece was enough to make me fancy one. Wish I'd stopped to ask a couple of questions, but was in a hurry. Have almost enough bits kicking around to build it up anyway, so figured it's worth a punt!

  • honest, go for it. For the money they're great. Any nearly every time I take it out I get people admiring it.

  • Are you sure they're really admiring it?

  • probably checking for cracks
