  • but i actually have an idea of what to sell it for now!

  • good luck with the sale

  • I was riding my Steve Goff road bike to work yesterday and it occurred to me that I really don't like riding it as much as my other bikes. I bought it on a whim a few years ago and apart from a terrific day riding flat out round the London Marathon course 2 years ago I have never really ridden it in the manner it deserves. It's fast and really comes into its own when you give it the beans. Trouble is I'm not that sort of rider, and I really don't like using drop bars.

Frame and forks are Reynolds 753, with Campag dropouts, shot-in seatstays, Reynolds pantoed cast fork crown, cutouts in the BB shell.
54x54 or thereabouts. Beautifully made as are all Steve Goff frames

All Campagnolo kit from late 1980s/early 1990s
C-Record 170mm crankset, with the hidden 5th chainring bolt, and self-extracting crank bolts. 52/42 Campagnolo rings
C-Record 8 speed hubs on Omega V Strada Hardox rims, 36 hole
    C-Record headset
    C-Record bottom bracket
Brand new ExaDrive 8 speed cassette
Record RR downtube shifters, with perfect indexing
    Record aero brake levers
    Chorus front derailleur
    Chorus aero seatpost
    Chorus monoplanar brakes
    Mirage 8 speed rear mech.
Also have a Chorus A-B rear mech
and a pair of C-Record 36 hole 7 speed (screw-on block) hubs to include

Cinelli Campione Del Mondo bars, grooved and drilled for aero cable routing
    Cinelli Record 1R stem
    Brooks black leather bar tape
    Brooks black, chopped, B17 saddle.
    Brand new SRAM PC870 chain.

  • oh yeah, that was meant to include something about me thinking of selling it but not knowing what the hell to price it at.

it's certainly worth 10% more with the chain on the right ring :-)

  • In a royal park? But they have speed limits.

  • Hey guys and gals..can you help me value this please?

It's a 58cm 531 British Eagle frame from the 80s I believe, converted to SS. 126mm hub spacing and takes 26.8 seatpost. Been home resprayed (pretty poorly).
I'm thinking about selling it minus wheels and cranks, though someone has already registered an interest in the forks.
What do you think would be a reasonable price for it?
    Appreciate any help - cheers!

    Sorry mate,
respect to monarchy is not exactly the same this side of the Channel....
and can't speak either about speed limits. ;-)
    BR,
    Marguerite.

  • Just wondering how much a pair of mint condition campag synchro two shifters would go for? The ones with the little micro adjuster...

They've been taken all around the mountains of Europe but certainly aren't showing it.

    Thank you kindly,

    Laurence

  • Around 60 pounds I would imagine without the fork wheels and crankset...perhaps...

Edit: didn't see it was 531, apologies, £110 perhaps..

you were closer with your first guess, i'd say £80 is fair considering

  • cheers for heads up guys, might just keep it and renovate it myself if £80 is all I'd get.

  • Roadie wheels:

Shimano Santé hubs with skewers, Mavic GP4 tub rims, 7sp cassette, 36h - used in good condition.

A weird one - Santé parts are pretty rare so I don't really know what they're worth.

    doesn't 531 always take a 27.2 seatpost?

  • I'll let others with more knowledge confirm, but apparently not...

    doesn't 531 always take a 27.2 seatpost?

  • I was just wondering how much you gents thought this Brian Rourke 731 os race pursuit frame might be worth? It's got track ends but also a rear mech hanger, drilled for both brakes.

    Here's a little picture!

    Cheers guys,

    Laurence

EDIT: forgot to mention, 700c wheels front and back, 59cm to the top of the seat tube, 49cm to the tt/st junction. I don't plan to sell it, just wanted a vague idea.

  • doesn't 531 always take a 27.2 seatpost?

Not always - single butted and plain-gauge 531 tubes came in 26.8 and 26.4, too, but these sizes are also found on chromoly or high-tensile frames. Double-butted 531 (i.e. 531C or 531 Professional) is always 27.2.

So, 27.2 is (almost definitely) 531 or some other good quality tubing, whereas 26.8/26.4 could be.

  • Having looked at the photo of the frame, I'd err towards it being 531 main tubes - it has double water bottle mounts and forged dropouts, both of which indicate a reasonably good quality frame.

You could always give the main tubes a flick with a fingernail - a high ringing noise indicates thin-walled 531, whereas a dull thud indicates thick-walled high-tensile tubing. It's not exactly a reliable test, though...

  • Amazing Rourke

Nothing helpful to add at all but that is a nice looking frame right there

Cheers man, going to build it up and see how comfortable it is to ride on, heard mixed things about pursuit frames and I really don't want to stick risers on it.
