  • It's wet, I'm gonna pull a Chan

  • But it's been pushed back to 12:30, you can still do it!

  • Have you asked Chan if he's OK with that? Two to tango and all...

I've just had my MTB ride cancelled for Saturday - anyone fancy either some ruffstuff or a big long road ride? Was planning to go to Rivington if anyone would like to get the knobblies out?

I've got to admit to wanting to try out Mow Cop - out down the A34, up the Cows Mop and back home through Leek/Macc?

  • Need to work up to mow cop.

  • I am now dog sitting for my brother so can't make it even if it wasn't all rainy.

  • Maybe this guy would be up for a decent ride:

  • MHBP Mid Week Road Club tackled and conquered the short but quite mighty Swiss Hill en route to Angie's Vice Den in Macc Market - Staffordshire oatcakes highly recommended on a miserable day.

    Stats: 18.6 miles out/750' elevation/11.3mph av - 17.6 miles back/182'/14 av

Just watched the Swiss Hill video and now realise the rider quits less than two thirds of the way up... tsk!

  • I've done a bit o' research and people on bikeradar seem to have to get off and push when going up the hill.

  • staffy oatcakes are highly recommended on any day, for any meal

  • I've done a bit o' research and people on bikeradar seem to have to get off and push when going up the hill.

You mean I've been doing it wrong all this time?

  • Planning a fairly casual ride out to Tatton and back tomorrow if anyone wants to tag along? Won't be a crazy pace and there's the option to jump on the train at Knutsford.

  • Bike ride this Saturday, anyone?

What do people feel about interval/Fartlek style training? I've never been coached nor have I been through any serious training programs before, so I have no idea how much of this stuff is BS or whether it's useful.

    • Remembers that many polisti will be dysfunctional on Saturday morning *

    Lame.

  • haha Fartlek

  • What's wrong with just riding about the place merrily?

    (Fartlek is an amusing word)

  • Nothing, that's all I've been doing so far.

I just read a few wiki articles and the word stuck in my head. The Swedes have plenty of funny words.

    Also:

Unlike continuous training, fartlek training can benefit participants of field games such as football, field hockey, ultimate frisbee, lacrosse, basketball, tennis, cricket and rugby as it develops aerobic and anaerobic capacities which are both used in these sports.

  • I've been trying to read a bunch of training articles. They're full of shit.

  • Clean them, they'll be easier to read.

  • I've been commuting by bike since the start of last week, using Strava for logging. After a day using a HRM, I'm going to try and use it every day, and keep above 160 bpm all the way.

  • ^ Sit at home and have an anxiety attack - same thing, without the risk of being run down by a car...

  • Salman - I'm bang up for a decent ride Saturday morning.

depending on how much evil alcohol is abused on Friday I may be practising Follothrulek tho. Lemme know what you're thinking route-wise.
