  • Bloomers is a not-for-profit, volunteer run bike project committed to promoting the benefits of bicycles to wimmin as an energy-efficient, economical, non-polluting form of transportation, and as a healthy lifestyle choice, by providing access to affordable equipment, education and bike activities in Manchester, UK.

    Roadie Ride, Sunday: 6th May, 3rd June, 8th July, 5th August
    Meet 10am Manchester Victoria Train Station (by the wall map)
    We ride 15-65 miles out to the countryside. Road/touring bikes recommended.

    Evening Amble Ride: Wednesday: 18th April, 16th May, 20th June, 18th July, 15th August
    Meet 6pm Pedal MCR, Platt Fields Park, Fallowfield M14 6LA
    We ride usually around 10 miles on concrete off road tracks, ending with a beer. All bike types welcome

    Wimmin's Tool Club, Wednesday: 25th April, 30th May, 27th June, 25th July, 29th August
    5pm-7pm Pedal MCR, Platt Fields Park, Fallowfield M14 6LA
    We open the workshop to wimmin to use our workstands and tools so you can DIY your bike, with volunteer mechanics on hand to give you advice.

  • Bloomers Bike Maintenance Classes

    The Road Rescue course covers: Bike Anatomy; Height adjustment of the seat pin and handlebar stem; MCheck, Identifying excessive component wear, Lube routine, Tools to take, Brake alignment to stop rubbing, Correct use of chain tool and chain measuring tools, Removal and replacement of the rear wheel, Correct use of quick release levers, Puncture repair. Inflation of the tyres to the correct pressure, Rear dérailleur indexing. Emergency get-you-home tips and tricks.

    The Home Mechanics Course covers:
    All of the above + Preventative maintenance and cleaning : The ins and outs, the products and tricks; Brake pads- Replacing and adjusting, 'Towing in', Brake cables, Replacing and tuning, Brake levers- Tightening or loosening the pull, Keeping levers secure on handle bars, Cables- replacing inner and outer cables, Gears: Indexing gears and replacing cables, both inner and outer; Wheels: Replacing bearings in hubs Wheel truing on stand and on bike.

    Brakes and Gears Course
    Gears (derailleur system): Replacement of inner and outer cables, Gear indexing, Limit screws,
    Brakes: Brake pads- Replacing and adjusting. 'Towing in'; Brake cables- Replacing and tuning; Brake levers- Tightening or loosening the pull, Keeping levers secure on handle bars.

    I also run a bike build course with groups of 2 students on request

    These are a HANDS ON classes; Many other providers mostly only provide demonstrations but in these you will get to have a go at everything on your bike or one of ours, to give you sound experiential learning that you can take with you and use forever! The hands on approach also means that you leave the class with your bike feeling like brand new!
