For Sale: Frames and other bits

  • Hi all,

I am finally having a long overdue clear out, I am putting a few things up today including a couple of lovely frames and will add a few more things when I can decide what to part with.

This first frame I am selling is my Vitus 979. The frame is 56cm and is in overall good condition for an aluminum frame of this age. There are some scuffs and scratches but these are to be expected. The only issue I can see really is that one of the water bottle bosses has come loose and requires re-gluing with epoxy or something similar. Unfortunately the frame does not come with the original Vitus forks but does come with some super lovely aluminum bonded ones. I have only owned this frame and forks for a few months and I planned to build It up into a summer ride but unfortunately the frame is a tad to big for me.

I would like £125 for the frame and forks:

The second frame I am selling is my old Dave Marsh Reynolds 531 competition frame, it has a 55cm seat tube ctc, a 55cm top tube ctc. This frame has been my main frame for a number of years and is only going as I have replaced it with a 653 Dolan Cougar. This is a lovely example of a lightweight steel racing frame from this master builder and is consequently an amazing frame to ride. The frame was re-sprayed two years ago but has chipped quite badly so really could do with a re-spray, if you want a pristine looking frame. I am including the Schimano 105 head set and Campagnolo bottom bracket with the frame. There are a number of key things to note with regards to the condition of this frame, which I will detail as best possible and I stress you read before buying this frame as I don’t want to sell this frame to under any false pretences. The first and most important thing to not is that the seat post started to split just beneath the lug. After deliberation and consulting a number of frame experts I have drilled a hole in the seat post to prevent this spilt from continuing down the seat tube, this seems to have resolved the splitting issue. Having a hole just beneath the lug might worry some people but this seems to be standard practice to resolve this issue and infact some frames I have seen come with this section drilled from new, including my good friends Witcomb. If you are not too sure about this please don’t buy the frame, unless you plan just to hang it on your wall where I’m sure it would look lovely, but honestly I would much rather the frame is ridden. The second issue that I am aware of is that the fork seems to have been filed down a little too much by a previous owner and consequently the crown race has a shim to make it fit snugly. I have ridden this frame like this for a long time and it has never caused any problems. The final thing of note is that I tried to remove the bottom bracket but it did not seem to undo easily so I left it as it is as the bearings seem to be OK as it runs fairly smoothly. This is just a note that if you want to remove it you may struggle, then again you might not struggle where I did.

As I mentioned this is a great frame but has some issues, so please feel free to ask questions and I’m happy for people to come see the frame before committing to buying it.

I am pricing the frame accordingly at £85:

I am also selling some Mavic 700c Open Pro rims, these are in great condition and have seen very little use:

    £60 for the pair:

I am also selling a 9 speed Campagnolo front derailleur, this is in good used condition.
    £10

That’s all for now I will hopefully add a few more things on or before the weekend. Feel free to ask questions and PM me if you want to buy anything or make me a sensible offer. I don’t really want to post the frames or rims so they are local pick up only, I am based in East London (Either Victoria park area or New Cross/Deptford area).
