I know most people on here are LDN based but just in case any Northern ladies want to learn more about how their bike works so they can get the skills to fix it themselves I run a variety of courses at Pedal MCR for wimmin.
The Road Rescue course covers: Bike Anatomy; Height adjustment of the seat pin and handlebar stem; MCheck, Identifying excessive component wear, Lube routine, Tools to take, Brake alignment to stop rubbing, Correct use of chain tool and chain measuring tools, Removal and replacement of the rear wheel, Correct use of quick release levers, Puncture repair. Inflation of the tyres to the correct pressure, Rear dérailleur indexing. Emergency get-you-home tips and tricks.
The Home Mechanics Course covers:
All of the above + Preventative maintenance and cleaning : The ins and outs, the products and tricks; Brake pads- Replacing and adjusting, 'Towing in', Brake cables, Replacing and tuning, Brake levers- Tightening or loosening the pull, Keeping levers secure on handle bars, Cables- replacing inner and outer cables, Gears: Indexing gears and replacing cables, both inner and outer; Wheels: Replacing bearings in hubs Wheel truing on stand and on bike.
Brakes and Gears Course
Gears (derailleur system): Replacement of inner and outer cables, Gear indexing, Limit screws,

These are a HANDS ON classes; Many other providers mostly only provide demonstrations but in these you will get to have a go at everything on your bike or one of ours, to give you sound experiential learning that you can take with you and use forever! The hands on approach also means that you leave the class with your bike feeling like brand new!

We provide training in bicycle maintenance and cycle training to give women the skills and confidence they need to incorporate cycling into their lives. We also run health and social bike rides which can help mental and physical health and be a fabulously fun way to spend a sunday. We are a not for profit, voluntary group.
