  • The flat plate on the Richey down tube helps disperse load and prevent slippage. With this design any slip means that tube end will be forced into the welds on the BB. It seems like more work to shape the tube round the BB than to fit a flat ring that the tube would simply butt against with no structural win for the extra work.

    It's an interesting start. I'm curious just how much of a saving, both in cost and weight.
