purely for selfish reasons (as far as I know Hackney Goal Slotters are hoping to attend this) is there any chance of doing it on the 28th April weekend?
-

I don't mean to start a request section but I really hope that it will not be on the weekend of the 12th, as I have an exam on the Saturday.
I have exams all around that period, but I could probably make the weekends directly before or after.

This would be too short notice for people in Ireland to book time off to travel

fair point

Only around for the last dates you've listed.
Wedding and honeymoon will take me up til then.
And I'm not breaking that for a stupid game which rules my life! -

i won't get time off for traveling to uk til the 8th of june. (thesis, ya know) which is probably too late if people wanna book flights to the euros while they are cheap ish

I know that this is being organised under the UKHBPA, and I by no means want to undermine that, but seeing as not everyone interested in the qualification process was able to attend this meeting, could we not hold an online poll to determine dates?
I am not suggesting a series of polls, that would be a mess, just one to determine which dates suit the majority of people wishing to attend the qualification tourney.

That would certainly be more productive than everyone listing their own preferred date for the tournament.
Ireland transport time issues should be taken into account (or their transport costs should be offset with a small team registration payment in my opinion).
Just curious: If any players can't make it, then the 2 of 3 rule applies, right?

yes we could, but in reality we are massively limited on dates, and it also depends on when courts are available.
Before May is too soon for people to organise travel to this.
After early June is too late to organise travel to France.27/29 April is Ladies Army
5/6/7 May is ok
12/13 May is ok
19/20 May is Cambridge
26/27 May is Padova
2/3/4 June is ok
9/10 June is Brighton. We could have a vote on those 3 options.
-
• #11
Would 2 out of 3 apply? Yes, if we wanted it to.
-
• #12
Well, the UKHBPA should probably make a decision about it, it's been the historical approach and is worth pondering.
The three proposed dates make sense.
Nice one UK.

vote on those 3 options sounds like a good idea. There prob should be a thread on lobp linking to the poll/vote so the irish are fully aware of it too cause im not sure that all of them check lfgss...
-
• #14
This needs to set up and a deadline announced for voting to end.

I agree that April is too early for the Irish teams. From the dates listed by John I think the sooner the better to give people optimum time to plan travel. So 5/6 may makes sense IMO
-
• #16
Also with it being bank hoilday on the Monday (7th) then it means travelling teams have extra time to get back to work

realistically, we'd probably check here just as much as we'd check LOBP. and between myself, emmet, alex and stevie, we can tell the other interested parties to vote.

Iain used a good online poll thing at doodle.com to organise our league games if you're not aware of that it could be useful.

+1 to a doodle poll
...though Brendan's cat is impartial and experienced at doing this kinda stuff...

just testing the water here, but how would people feel about team warin playing in this? Personally would love to come (even though the chances of qualifying are slim) and my mindset coming in to this would be a chance to play some really good polo rather thank just to get drunk. But at the same time totally understand if people aren't happy with this due to Alf's age and size. Let me know what people think as would rather not come than to come and people be pissed off about it.

Do it.
I would rather see Team Warin in the Euros than any other team.

Alf (and yourself) more than make up for it in skill.
What about time off school if you were to qualify tho?Would be a great educational experience too. -
• #24
If you think you've got a chance and you can make the wildcard and tourney then go for it, they're the only stipulations. Age and size mean fuck all, look at Bill.

if Manchester can enter then you can! Insert beagle smiley? P.s I love you Manchester and I'd never steal your banner..
Date: Sunday 3rd June 2012
Location: Newington Gardens Court (2 courts), Harper Rd, London
Aim: Qualifier for UK and Ireland's Slots for European Championships.
7 automatic qualification slots for the tournament in Paris and 3 slots for the wildcard pre-tournament in Rouen
Rules for player/team participation:
Teams can only participate if the UK or Irish polo scenes are the 'primary' polo scenes for the majority of their players (2 out of 3) and players are not representing any other teams in other national/regional qualifiers.
A player can only represent one team
2 out of 3 of the players in a team that plays in the UK qualifiers, must also play in the Euros.
Registration: Closes May 25th
Format: To be announced after Registration closes
To make the results as accurate as possible we want to keep the team numbers low. So please only enter if:
a) You are prepared to attend both the Euros and the wildcard(s)
b) You believe you have a realistic chance of finishing in the top 10 in the UK.
This is not a tournament for someone who wants to come along and just have a fun day of polo, there are plenty of other tournaments for that.
The format will depend on the number of teams. An ideal scenario would be round robin, swiss rounds doesn't give accurate midtable results. If there are more than 12 teams I will look into a custom format, with a final RR for the midtable teams. There will be no elimination stage.
