Harry's Place is delighted by Gorgeous George's election
http://hurryupharry.org/2012/03/30/the-return-of-galloway-the-return-of-sectarian-britain/On the subject of Geo G I am with Niall . Also look up his previous career @ War on Want.
BTW I don't like the woman who posted this as she slagged off my daughter for being kettled in Whitehall in 2010. It was one of my proudest days as parent...

64% at the last General Election, 54 and 53% in the General Elections before that. Respect got 3% at the last General Election.
dont by elections have very low turnouts though?
-
• #14404
Yes, which is why smaller parties tend to do better in by-elections. However given the current levels of dissatisfaction with the government it isn't really that surprising that there was a high turn out.

Tories compare the tanker driver's strike to the miner's strike. Unite continue to run rings around them.

Why does the woman who burnt herself get all the headline for her stupidity?
-
• #14408
She doesn't. Anyone who puts petrol anywhere near an open flame is an idiot. The reason why it is in the news is because a government minister said that people should stockpile fuel in their garage or home which is a bad idea. Stupid people then follow the stupid advice and maim themselves as a result, the memo that is talked about in the article I linked to shows it is part of a political strategy on the part of the Tories to have a moment of glory that has backfired in a pretty spectacular fashion.
-
• #14409
Quite a lot of people with two stroke lawn mowers have managed to keep petrol in their shed or garage for years without burning down the neighbourhood, that said.
Petrol is not in of itself dangerous, it's being an idiot with it that is dangerous.
-
• #14410
I have a can or two of petrol in my shed. Plus loads of nitro fuel in the house. You'd have to be pretty thick to hurt yourself with it. Like using hairspray while using a cooker.

Once it's going then it's a bugger- but you can put a cigarette out in a jar of petrol.

So, there is a man living in a hole on Black Heath. Soon the army will have surface to air missiles based there for the olympics. A counciller says they need to move him on before the military "deal" with him.
These SAMs, if they were ever used to shoot something down - where are the debris going to land... NIMBY I hope.

I just heard a radio ad for a payday loan with an APR of over 1000%. Is that an April fool too?
-
• #14420

1000% is low compared to 4500% !!!!
1000% works out as 2.74% per day and that is what these loans are intended for.
i.e. you urgently need 100 quid and pay £2.74 for the privilege.
thievin scum.

Must be plenty of locals rabbiting on about him.
