if it's an issue of struggling up hills, why not keep the bike and put a derailleur and shifters on it? goff frames are in the top flight for handmade performance steel.

thank you, your comment made me think. I didn't research much about Steve Goff. It might be not so much struggling up the hill but also that I'm rather uncomfortable on the bike when riding longer distances, to the point of being sick. It could be the set up. If I wanted to convert it to a racer, I'd probably have to leave only the frame.
