Biggest uses of battery:
1) Screen being on a lot, or set to be bright
Then there's a big drop off, and all other apps that use battery have this problem:
2) Adverts
Yup... adverts cause significant drain in battery power. 30% of Angry Birds battery power goes to capturing data, transmitting to advert servers, fetching adverts, showing adverts.
Some 20% to 60% of power used by apps is solely down to advertising.
Even the F1 Live Timing app that is £20 (or free if you find it on the internet), includes Flurry advertising code that reports usage stats to a third party and is a significant part of the battery drain.
After that:
3) GPS
4) Background processes
Things you can do:
1) Turn off screen manually as soon as you are not using it
2) Dim screen or set it to autobrightness
3) Opt to pay the less than £1 for premium versions of apps (no adverts and no advert code in most cases)
4) Exit (from the foreground) and maps or location service once you're done
5) No need to care about how many apps you install, but care deeply about anything that will be a background process
Oh, and if you're interested in the F1 Live Timing app, I looked at the one via apkdownloadlinks, and it's free of any virus or malware (I read the code). So I'll vouch for that, but nothing else.
