Hi guys, n00b here.
Got myself an Elan a couple of days ago and decided to post a pic; still not sure of the year yet. Rides like a dream… So far I’ve only changed the bar tape and removed the shifters, derailleurs, etc.

I’d like to convert it into a single speed with a classic/vintage style. First thing I need to do is repair/change the pedals since they make a terrible noise (the bearings are probably messed up). I’d also like to get a couple of new wheels built (still not sure which rims and hubs to use yet) with white-walled tyres. I’m thinking of having the handlebar hand-stitched with brown leather, a Brooks saddle, and polish all the metal bits n bobs.
But first, I’m getting a good lock for it. Some knucklehead stole my previous ride, a MTB which I had since I was 12. I want to make sure that doesn’t happen again. Oh, and maybe a couple of mudguards until the summer arrives. I hate getting my shirt splattered with dirt.

Watch out for the wheel size as some are 27". Just requires extra thought for the brakes though.

wiener have you ever repainted your bike??
-
• #755
Nope, It's original from the 80's
BTW if you think the Shamal is overkill, here is a detail from the rear wheel

hi
can anyone id this bike and let me know if it will have normal thread size, thanks
-
• #758
Yes, should be double thick, suitable for brocade.
-
• #759
Should be normal size thread. Probably two pages if you post in "Current Projects". (Joke thief!).

If the bottom bracket is all right, don't mess with it and just install a single blade crank.
-
• #761
It does have threading of many sizes in any way you want.

i have exactly the same red peugeot as whatok. i use it for triathlons. i would like to get in touch with him to offer help during his project.

Denon's peugeot looks likes a carbolite steel from mid 80's.
It is a bit daunting knowing which BB to choose esp. since a lot of them are ££££.
I fitted an up to date Campag Record with English threads to my 80's Pug and it worked out great. Don't forget to order a BB tool.
I would suggest Campag Pista BB and Crankset for a fixed set. I know some one else who did this with his custom Mercian build and was delighted.
I also replaced the original Stronglight Headset with Campag Record 1 inch threaded to complete the set up.

Denon is lucky that he does not have the same seat post as whatok and myself.
whatok has a peugeot with an integral expander seat post with a similar mechanism as a quilled handlebar stem.
It can be removed by removing the saddle, undoing the expander bolt a bit and giving it a tap with a hammer. Do not undo the bolt completely when you tap the expander loose.
Reattach the saddle and twist the assembly whilst restraining the frame. It should come free. Withdrawal of the assembly should then be easier.
It is a bit of a flaw of the frame as the seat post choice is limited and because of the flutes water seeps down inside the frame.
Elegant French design though.

I gave that frame away in the end as I didn't have the time to sort it out.. I will contact the guy later and see if he got anywhere with it..

My Pug currently. Had to remove the decals as they were badly scratched when I sourced the frame. Trying to source some original Peugeot decals though and proving difficult. Also would like a new headset and stem, which is also proving difficult also haha;

Hi All...
I have a pug P10L (which, if research is correct should be a 1983 'ish model.)
It was purchased new from Steve Heffernan in West Drayton, Middx (Heffs Bikes)
68mm shell.
Needs a new BB, can any experts confirm it is likely to be an English thread ?
Cheers.

I think all the Peugot's from the last 20 or 30 years have English thread. Sheldon has more info (as always)

I had a Peugot gran criterium from 82. - French thread through and through. had to sell in the end to maintain my sanity

I’ve looked through every Peugeot catalogue from the 70s to the 90s and I can’t find my bike anywhere. It’s a Peugeot Elan (pic in my previous post) model number PE10N.
It’s as if this bike doesn’t officially exist. lol
Anyone know why? I’m trying to figure out the exact year. Something tells me it’s either 87 o 88.

Macrike
Can't help with the year of your bike but those Elans are ten a penny. Nice bike to start with but you will very quickly want to move onto something better IMHO.
Almost certainly an English BB.
Lots of pics of Elan's on here, maybe different colours but still Elans
Cheers

Thanks for responding. Maybe they didn’t want to include the bike in the catalogues because it was crap. lol
I still love the bike, though. Fantastic little thing. I’m using it mainly as a commuter bike, with a casual ride on a Sunday or two around the countryside.
Initially I was going to convert it into a single-speed/fixed-gear but I’ve now decided to keep all the original bits n bobs, use it as a commuter bike or for hilly rides on the mountains instead, and get myself another frame to use as a SS/FG for summer rides along the beach, etc. dreams of his own Ricky Feather bike
I’ve been inspecting all the components and everything is French except the brake levers, which are Weinmann. I’m searching around for some French levers to complete the circle. Can anyone recommend a good brand? I’ve seen some on eBay but I’m not sure if they’re any good or not.

Finished this build in December and have been riding it nearly everyday since.
This forum was so helpful. Thanks to everyone on here who helped me out -

Nice clean buil, tillt your bars a little bit up.
A bold move. Strong look. I like it. If it winds a few people up all the better.
