I quite like the patina on it. Would be a shame to respray. Can't wait to see how this gets built up. Somebody buy it!

G'day, I'm the purchaser.
Subject to seeing how bad the rust is, I'd be planning a full and faithfull respray and decals as close to the original as I can get/make. Cyclomondo has some ok ones but I'll be happy to hear from anyone else with suggestions.
As for build, aim is to go as close to the Hinault, Lemond, Fignon TT bikes of the era (very early 80's).
If anyone has details on the spec they were riding - components, rims, even toe straps - I'd welcome the info. Otherwise, I might just have to pay a visit to the Badger and pick his brain!
Cheers from Down Under.

Write these guys to get the exact specs. But any Campagnolo Record from 1981-1986 will do great on it. Some might suggest Dura Ace Ax to keep up the idea of aerodynamics. But as this is the first TT bike ever Shimano might not have invented that group at this point. Also the front brake is supposed to be on the wrong side of the fork. I kind of like that approach.
Dan Lofter has made one look great with DA

Please send me som photos when you are done. My brother and I would love to see it properly done.Mads

Thanks for the info. I figured Renault were probably on Campagnolo with some funky mods to the brake levers to run the cables under the tape. Was just wonderig if they were using some of the more obscure components eg Speidel, Gipiemme, probably not Huret. I figure Sedis chains but maybe Regina?
Probably regular mavic rims too - so that's no drama for me, have plenty of those sitting around.
Clement tires maybe???
Agree, has to have the reverse front brake.
I agree Dan Lofter's build looks pretty cool but the DA on it just doesn't do it for me - though I have a DA groupset of the era sitting around.
Will get in touch with the GitaneUSA guys.
Thanks.

I have the original campy brake levers. I havent been able to locate them on the net. I will take some photos of them. I wanted to keep them for another project but I am willing to sell them.

Cool, I'm interested PM me some pics if you can.
Thanks to Dandy for the link to the DA group - I have a full early group like that but saving it for a roadie rather than a TT - unless anyone wants it.

these levers should deffinatly stay with the frame.
they were made for this frame i think. it would be like chopping off the rear triangle to stick on another bike.
did the sale go through ok or do we get another chance to buy it?

It's mine mine mine :) Levers too. Agree, they look a bit like a bespoke lever, very slender. Not sure about the hoods - look like Dia Compe - but nonetheless will stay with the bike.
Anyone got a good condition yellow Turbo saddle????

yes thanks. i think a black saddle would be more the era.
i think the levers were made for this type of frame.
you lucky bastard. i knew i should have gone for it when i first saw it.

Perhaps black. True. Have a look at the colour pic of Hinault in the yellow yersey skinsuit about to start the TT at http://dirtywhitebartape.blogspot.com.au/- looks like the same levers - that's the build I'd be aiming for, or very close to it of course.
