The compass beers haven't happened in a long while. There was a short period of time in which there was a massive influx of new people and the forum was quite young, so we went out of our way to welcome everyone. It became a little untenable after a while, and as the beers (especially South, North and Wests) settled into their own with strong regular attendances each week, we just changed to suggesting people make their own way to the pub.
So the compass beers are currently no more, and occasionally we mumble about trying them again if people want. They were only very short rides... centre of London or a notable point out to the pub in question. Yes girls joined in too.
But for the distances you mentioned I reckon doing some of the more regular and longer rides would be a better fit. And I only suggest starting with the ladies as they are a lovely group and should be able to help you see a bit of London without there being a risk that your first ride is in a group where some guy is just trying to chat you up. Basically, they can help you avoid the more sausage party side of the forum so that you get to enjoy some of the bits of London and see what the community is about.
