  • There will come a time, if you ride a bit, no matter how you ride, when you have to stop hard, and it will hurt! Just fit a rear brake man, so much more logical!

  • I agree with everyone that one front brake with a freewheel is silly. A mate at work had this and it took me a few months to convince him that it was a bad idea and I fitted a rear brake and lever for him that I had knocking about for a few quid. However, it's Soo Fuego's bike and he can do whatever the hell he likes with it.

  • I understand that, but I may not have gotten my point across right perhaps. I ride mostly on rollers, work and school only leave me free time to work out late at night. Instead of going out in the streets at 8 or 9pm, I use the rollers.

When I am on the streets, its in my neighborhood. I honestly dont feel the need for two brakes.

  • Because it's good to feel a little less in control? it's also a little more illegal too to boot.

  • Once I start riding out on the streets more I'll consider it, right now, no.

I live in Southern California, bike laws here aren't enforced much actually.

  • Just out of interest, why do you insist of having a front brake not a rear one if you really just want to have 1 brake?

  • I have never insisted on ronly unning a front not a rear brake. But I chose the front because the brake cable was easier to route and I liked the simpler look.

Not exactly sure why everyone is getting their panties bunched, the bike is not even a week old. Most of the stuff on in was recycled from my previous beater build. A new front brake is on the way and as soon as I make up my mind, a new stem, handlebar and brake lever will be ordered.

The build may progress to a different direction, I may run a rear brake and go fixed. I don't know yet. I'm not opposed to two brakes or rear only brake but so far with the stuff I had laying around, this is how it came out.

  • How fucking hard is it to just have another brake? My crosscheck is going to be fixed with two brakes.

  • Fuck it... 3 brakes.

  • You can get more than that on there with a bit of ingenuity.
2 on the seatstays (one above, one below)
2 on the chainstays (by the same method)
    2 disc brakes
    2 hub brakes
at least one on the front wheel, or 2 if you haz barspinz room
Perhaps a disc brake calliper on the chainring.

  • I might just piss the frame off and walk around with a bag of brakes

  • Fuck it, just cement yourself to the ground.

  • I'll make concrete boots and jump in the Thames.

  • Don't really want to add to what's already been said, but I'm genuinely intrigued: the speeds I cycle at are directly matched by my stopping ability. The better the brakes the faster I can ride. Why would anyone not want two brakes as decent quality as possible?

  • Brakes are "sad". It's a young person's thing. You wouldn't understand.

  • If it's dry, which I believe it is pretty much all the time in Southern California, what's you're back brake going to do? By the time you've hit the front brake in an emergency there's fuck all weight on your back wheel to provide any traction back there. At best it'll come in usefull if your front cable snaps.

  • If you hit the front brake first...

    Better than skidding into stuff

  • How fucking hard is it to just have another brake? My crosscheck is going to be fixed with two brakes.

How fucken hard is it to understand I dont need another brake to ride on rollers?

Not feeling the need, and actually having the need, are two different things.
Remind me again why I need two brakes for riding on rollers?

  • What if your cat walks infront of you and you simultaneously roll off the rollers?

  • It could happen!!!

  • Remind me again why I need two brakes for riding on rollers?

    Why do you need 1?

    *blown your mind. Pow!

  • tell her how much you love and value her every day of the year

    Why would I lie?

  • I ride freewheel and brakeless.
However, I do keep a 500kg rock in my back pocket which is fixed to my seatpost by a sturdy chain.
If I have to stop in an emergency I just drop this.
    See? Who needs brakes?

  • Pushes reset
