  • Toodle pip Citeh.

  • Well done Sporting. Great result well deserved.

  • This, still!

Can't remember the last time I've been this chirpy at work in a very long time, I guess it shows how much of an effect a positive result has on my mental well being...

No need for expensive shrinks or the depression thread...

Nothing a dose of this doesn't fix

  • On a positive note pogba looks like a class act

You're kidding, unless another one plays for Bilbao.

Stonking game of football that, and another lesson for English football. Miles behind.

  • Who wants to join, watching City getting slaughtered?

    Told Ya.
Still, those pigs got the 2nd on a non-existent penalty and the 3rd goal is offside.
Got what they deserved. Fucking mercenaries.

  • Glad Bilbao won. Might make it out there for the next round and the home leg at the San Mames.

  • The second half of the Citeh games is going to be spectacular. If Citeh pull this off it will be one of the most amazing results of the season.

    :)

  • Well done Sporting. Great result well deserved.

    Muito obrigado!

  • Didn't know you were a Sporting man!

    #jealous

Wish I could say the same, more so after tonight's performance (on and off the pitch).

I've been to San Mames once and have to say that it's my favourite Spanish ground. 4A few years ago I managed to and see Bilbao at home and watch Biarritz play in San Sebastian the next day.

  • 28 minutes back to Mrs b&d's gaff from San Mames.

No fucking idiots either. Or scousers.

  • Didn't know you were a Sporting man!

    Always and forever.

  • That's why the youth teams that win the most amount of trophies (Spain and the Netherlands) are also where the highest number of players flow through to the top tier.

As much as I'd like to agree with what you're saying, I still think you're wrong.

Ajax, Barcelona, Lyon, Feyenoord, West Ham (pains me to say so) are traditionally very strong clubs when it comes to promoting youth, one of the reasons is that they tend to be the champions in their age groups.

Looking through that tournament, which looks a good idea, seems to be 'big name' centric NOT based on successful academies otherwise Everton, Villa, Arsenal, Bilbao (and many more unfashionable teams*) should be there.

*not saying the teams mentioned are gash

Nice. Mrs jaw is from Bilbo as well (near Barakaldo)

Wonderful. How's your Basque? Mrs b&d's from Algorta.

  • you serious?

What about the families who are missing sons or fathers? They deserve the right to know what went on.

The whole thing is a giant clusterfuck, the leak looks like a snide way of buck passing but I'm trying to get all tin foil hat about it till all the documents are released

    This

    (poor form Pip)

Absolutely. There's prolly a dozen or two more.

Over the last few 5 years there has been such a shift in playing style between continental teams and the moneybags and this is where the long term vision is now starting to pay off for the continental teams.
The style of play that we see at Barcelona is fascinating as it's something they've been brought up with, fwiw Bielsa and Bilbao contradict this theory as this is not a club that used to pride itself on highly technical/tactical football.

On paper Arsenal are best placed to challenge those teams but because of the insular mentality of the majority of people that run, and comment on, English football their vision is destined for failure on domestic terms.

  • Wonderful. How's your Basque? Mrs b&d's from Algorta.

non existent (she studied it at boarding school but doesn't speak it these days)
her father doesn't speak it at all, for the obvious reason, the language was prohibited and they haven't lived there for nearly 25 years.

  • ^^What was also interesting to hear on the commentary is that Bilbao only take players from the Basque, or with some sort of connection to it. They're that limited with transfers. None of them are vain egotists, like our lot. It's that simple. They're committed to something in a way that too many English players could never imagine.

  • They've also fielded a black player for the first time earlier this season.

    His mother is Basque.

    Not like Tony O'Cascarin then.

He later found out that his grandmother had lied.

They only sign Basque players or those with Basque heritage. Imagine how they'd get on with teh rulez here?!

Footie can be remarkably simple; something Dario Gradi has been showing for eons. Brendan Rodgers is showing it now. It takes the correct mind set and a deep conviction in it. I do fear the wattlessness of fans here with their impatience in young players given opportunities also when a player chooses to opt for possession rather than "get it it into the mixer!!!".
Youth team coaches need to be paid better rather the hopeless, fucked top heavy pyramid payment that exists now (also the lack of qudos at that level).

  • Andy and Jonny were busy getting laid tonight...

    Europa Cup >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

this. though to be clear, Andy and I are in different countries. apparently

Drawing a lot from 2 games aren't we?

Bilbao played a blinder, but they're 7th in a league of 4 teams. They're like arsenal, they aspire to play great football and are capable of beating any team on the day, but can't win anything for shit.

And their food, women, weather, cars, drink is better than ours too isn't it? (The fact all these are true is beside the point)
