• Was Adam taking it to seriously?

What did you call last year Ben?

    #teenslaining

  • I apologise to all the spokes and nipples who were offended by that removal of ball. Thankfully no kids cried as a result of a dickmove intended to keep the game rolling.

I made this move knowing Bill was not present other wise I'm sure I wouldn't have done it. I missed you Bill!

  • True, ideally we'd have tried to stop the game, but you're also relying on the other team to not score on you while you're explaining what's happened to the ref.

    But yeah, our bad.

At a tourney, it's up to the ref to stop it, not the players. Unless you still believe that players can ref themselves, refs if necessary but not necessarily reffing etc.

Slightly disappointed that there are still people that don't know the rule on a trapped ball.

  • Guess my call last year was correct?

It was correct for the split-second in which the ball was in the spokes, but as soon as it dropped out, it wasn't. And it also wasn't your call. IIRC, I was reffing, and I didn't blow for it, as I was waiting to see whether the ball would drop out or not.

Just so everyone knows, it is never permitted to hit another player's bike with your mallet.

  • nice "move" gormley.

This is actually a serious point, and I've said this to you before Ben, when I've been reffing.

If you aren't the ref, don't make a call, regardless of what you think has happened, or how wrong you think the ref is.

A player can easily think that's the ref's call, stop playing, concede a goal, or whatever.

Or as this guy puts it:

That's why refs have whistles, and why I get cross when they don't use them when they're making calls. Players should always play to the whistle. Expecting (often drunk) spectators not to shout stuff is a little unrealistic, and contrary to the spirit of the game.

In the infamous "reset" incident, those players that were stupid enough to stop playing because of a random shout unaccompanied by a whistle deserved to have a goal scored on them, IMO.

I think thats a little unfair Bill. there are alot of games that get reffed without whistles being available to refs. When i have one i use it but often I dont have a whistle and therefore expect players to respond to me if i give a ruling on something. Sometimes when you are playing, you dont know who has shouted something that sounds like a ref's order so it is natural to assume it is from a ref.

Not wanting to jump on the Beagle bandwagon here but there were issues the other day in league games where Ben called things as a goal ref and has also 'called' (ie not just heckling but assuming 'refship') goals when he isnt a goal ref, influencing the referee and totally confusing things.

People always shout and heckle but rarely in the way that the 'reset' incident played out. If its not your call then wind your neck in surely.

  • 5 * rated thread.

  • You got it wrong, I was the goal ref. and you on the other hand was only timing the game and jumped in when I was trying to talk to Alexis.

On another note: "Skidding into someone is legal, I have played for 3 years". Those were your words.

    no they werent.
    Beagle memory fail

And I didnt jump in. Alex was trying to ref. You were shouting at him trying to distract him from the game. We tried to stop you shouting. You didnt stop. So then I started winding you up.
    That is how it went

  • Wanna bet I'm right?

  • Ill bet you a couple of punctured inner tubes and a broken mallet shaft that I said 'never in over 3 years of playing polo have i heard a goal ref make so much useless noise'. Or something along those lines....
    ;)

  • I called when Wen crashed into an opposing player when he tried to stop and could not and skidded into the player and a member Grrrrl then got the ball.

I then called again for the goal, simillar incident the other end too, goal given. 2 calls when I was trying to speak to Alexis who has admitted he wasn't too sure about the rules and you jumped in both times.

Nope, you specifically said that skidding into players is alright.

Fallacious attempt at best Ben to mask your inept of the rules. Next time, read the rules.

The rules says the goal ref decides, end of. You referring to your game against YoMoYo? Bitter Ben, very very very very very bitter.

  • meh we can ask sandy and alex if i said that. cause i didnt. All i was talking about was your loud noises that were ruining the peace and tranquillity of the game. Noone was even discussing your call because it wasnt your call to make. Thats the actual point here.
If i said skidding into players was ok then i was winding you up but at least i wasnt attempting to overrule the ref

A call overruled by the players, the scorer and then the ref
