  • Wouldn't have thought any later than 4.30/5ish, but obviously it all depends on whether we end up riding fast/slow and how long the breaks are.
    It's going to be an uphill start hence the first pit stop after about 17miles for a beery refreshment just before we go over the last hill.

    10:30 Start -> then 16miles
    12:00 Pub (30 mins) -> then 24miles
    2:00 Pub Lunch/chips/beer (1hr) -> then 20miles
    4.30/5 Richmond Hill

    That's how I've roughly got it in my head but have to see how things pan out on the day

  • Okay cool.
    I really need to start getting more miles in for training purposes, so I am in - probably geared.

  • IN!

    Edit: Ahh, thought this was on the Sunday. I'm out :(

  • This is open to noobs right? Looks like a lot of fun!

  • Open to anyone who can comfortably and safely ride a few hills.... well, one or 2 fairly long but shallow enough inclines. :)

    The first 35k is 'alright' but much more uphill than down. But as they say - what goes up, must come down - and the other side of the last big hill is an awesome descent!

    Probably marginally better off coming geared but it's not essential. It's not going to be a hectic pace anyway - there's too much great scenery to take in.

    There's also a small mystery bonus detour, but that will become more than apparent when it happens!

  • I've managed London to Brighton on my SS apart from Ditchiling Beacon, which gets up to 15% I think, not particularly comfortably, but if you don't try you don't get better eh?

  • Ha, if you've done London - Brighton, this isn't going to be a problem.

    The biggest single incline involved is maybe a quarter of Ditchling

  • I should put this thread on ignore. Can't believe I'm missing out on this one.

  • ok cool, see you guys tomorrow!

  • Fail! Why u no ride, Jana?? :(

  • too hungry. and busy :/ i triple booked didn't i.
    not hotdogs though, definitely not hotdogs.
    sorreee.

    Hmmmmm.

  • haha, there's a bonus detour on every ride with you when you're getting lost:)

  • Come along - absolutely guaranteed miles, sun, beers, hills, trees, and absolutely no headwinds ;)

  • are people riding this geared?

  • haha, there's a bonus detour on every ride with you when you're getting lost:)

    I never get lost*! Ask OneLessCardigan - we've both done almost the same route as this and it went without a hitch

    *much

  • are people riding this geared?

    Yes, come geared - if you're still not 100%, bringing your SS isn't a good idea

    There is nothing even approaching 15% for any sustained distance on this ride. Think 30mi of 2% average more than hard hitting hills. I really think this should be fine for somebody new to this sort of distance, Hinata will make sure that nobody gets left behind or dropped off the back anyway when he does his sweep backs. Always good to have a regroup and breather at the top of any hills too.

  • Stonehedge you coming?

  • ^^ Think lots of little climbs with plenty of flats and downhills to get your breath/legs back.

    Sorry Ada, have other ride planned...sucking up the hills at the moment for my Canada silliness.

    Sounds cool, I've done some fairly regular 40 to 60 mile rides, and the dynamo last year so the distance should be fine, just don't want to hold you guys back on pace!

    i wasn't even thinking of bringing ss, still haven't recovered from that stupid chest infection
