And I'll bet 99.5% of all motorcyclists killed or seriously injured in major bike accidents were wearing helmets too.

Any fatality is a major accident.
Motorcyclists die of spinal and organ damage these days, their heads are usually intact.
They go much faster too, all the comforting security of a modern motorbike helmet makes high speed physically sustainable. Which of course does nothing to alleviate the risk of riding a motorcycle. Despite 99% helmet use it is the most dangerous way to travel.
