I might have found a much better solution to the gear question.
Presently 32t front with 9 speed block on the back. I seem to favour 2nd or 3rd gear which gives me a 34 or 39" gear. The chain line is bollocks though and the middle ring is the one with the most profiling on it so it's not going to last long.
I've got a 22t inner ring that I can put back on. If I go to 16, 15 or 14 on the back I get 35, 38, 40 inch respectively. I was thinking ghetto tensioner with an old rear mech I have but then I got thinking (it does happen once in a while) and checked to see if I could get a magic gear.
22 x 15 gives 16.366"
22 x 14 gives 16.488"
My stays measure in at 16.5" so guessing 22x14 would be pretty good and 22x15 possible but with a bit of a loose chain.
Anybody played the magic gear game before and got any thoughts before I get busy with the spanners?
